Abstract : The fast appearance of benzodiazepine analogues, referred to as new psychoactive substance (NPS) or designer benzodiazepines, requires the continuous update of detection methods in order to keep up with the latest drugs on the recreational drug market. 17. Epidemiological studies of medication use and effectiveness in bipolar disorder
Abstract : In the last decades, new treatments for bipolar disorder (BD) have emerged, prompting a decrease in the use of lithium – the former “gold standard” for relapse prevention, and increasing the possibilities for individualized treatment. The aims of this thesis were to: 1) explore the use of relapse prevention in the early phases of bipolar illness, 2) add to the current knowledge concerning the comparative effectiveness of various pharmacological maintenance treatments, including combination therapies, and 3) explore the use of benzodiazepines and non-benzodiazepine hypnotics (so called Z-drugs) in BD. 19. Statistics on local drug sales: A tool to identify problem areas and to follow effects of education on drug use
Abstract : Aims: 1) To assess if drug sales data indicate differences in morbidity, mortality, socio-economic conditions and deviating prescribing habits among physicians; 2) to identify areas for educational interventions and to analyse changes in prescribing after educational activities. 20. Register-based studies of delivery outcome after maternal use of some common drugs
Abstract : This thesis aimed to study neonatal outcome including the presence of congenital malformations and to describe maternal characteristics for women using some common drugs during pregnancy. Drugs used in one benign condition (nausea and vomiting) and one chronic disease (hypothyroidism) and the CNS-active drugs benzodiazepines and hypnotic benzodiazepine receptor agonists were selected.
