21. Novel electrode and photoelectrode materials for hydrogen production based on molecular catalysts
Abstract : The PhD project focussed on the application of a cobalt tetraazamacrocyclic complex, in the literature commonly referred to as [Co(CR)Cl2]+ as a molecular catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). This was within the broader scope of the EU MSCA H2020 ITN ‘eSCALED’ project, which primarily aimed to create artificial leaf devices for the storage of solar energy in chemical fuels and, as part of this, sought the development of novel bio-inspired and scalable materials. 22. Indirect Radiohalogenation of Targeting Proteins : Labelling Chemistry and Biological Characterisation
Abstract : In about half of all newly diagnosed cancer cases, conventional treatment is not adequately curative, mainly due to the failure of conventional techniques to find and kill residual cells and metastases, which might consist of only a few malignant cells, without causing unacceptable complications to healthy tissue. To solve the problem a more selective delivery of cytotoxic substances to tumour cells is needed. READ MORE

23. Environmentally Degradable Polyethylene : Effects of Additives and Environment on the Degradation and Degradation products
Abstract : This thesis summarises and compares the influences ofdifferent additives (photosensitisers, pro-oxidants, abiodegradable filler) on blown low-density polyethylene (LDPE)films during photo- and thermal degradation with respect tochemical changes in the polymer matrices and identifieddegradation products. Additives studied were irondimethyldithiocarbamate (FeDMC), nickel dibutyldithocarbamate(NiDBC), carbon black, starch, a pro-oxidant that consisted ofmanganese stearate together with styrene butadiene rubber (SBR)or natural rubber (NR) and a master batch containing linearLDPE, starch and pro-oxidant. 24. 13C-Enriched Dehydrogenation Polymers Used for Studying Light-Induced Yellowing of Lignocellulosic Materials
Abstract : This study deals with the use of selectively 13C-enriched dehydrogenation polymers (DHPs) as models of lignin in lignocellulosic materials for elucidating the reaction pathways involved in light-induced yellowing. Methods for the synthesis of coniferin, a precursor to lignin and DHP, selectively 13C-enriched in the aromatic ring (positions 1, 3, 4, and 5) have been developed. READ MORE

25. Formation and Transformation of Atmospheric Brown Carbon (BrC)
Abstract : Atmospheric brown carbon (BrC) aerosol absorbs light in the UV-Vis spectrum and has poorly constrained but potentially large climate forcing impacts. Most current climate models lack detailed chemistry and interlinked properties of atmospheric BrC, that induce large uncertainties in radiative forcing predictions. READ MORE
