  2. 2. Super resolution fluorescence imaging : analyses, simulations and applications

    Author : Jan Bergstrand; Jerker Widengren; Eilon Sherman; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Fluorescence methods offer extraordinary sensitivity and specificity, and are extensively used in the life sciences. In recent years, super resolution fluorescence imaging techniques have developed strongly, uniquely combining ~10 nm sub diffraction resolution and specific labeling with high efficiency. READ MORE

  3. 3. Liposomes for Drug Delivery : from Physico-chemical Studies to Applications

    Author : Nill Bergstrand; Katarina Edwards; Felix M Goni; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; liposome; steric stabilisation; BNCT; cryo-TEM; EGF; targeting; stability; permeability; pH-sensitive liposomes; triggered release; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry; fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Physico-chemical characterisation of structure and stability of liposomes intended for drug delivery is the central issue in this thesis. In addition, targeted liposomes to be used in boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) were developed.Lysolipids and fatty acids are products formed upon hydrolysis of PC-lipids. READ MORE

  4. 4. Small Cajal body-associated RNA 2 and RNA-binding protein WRAP53β in DNA repair and Hoyeraal-Hreidarsson syndrome

    Author : Sofie Bergstrand; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The DNA in our cells can be damaged through many different mechanisms and correct repair of DNA lesions is of utmost importance to ensure genomic integrity and prevent alteration in the genetic code contributing to diseases such as cancer, neurodegenerative disorders and premature aging. Non-coding RNAs were for a long time considered as non-functional transcriptional byproducts. READ MORE

  5. 5. Biomolecules at Interfaces -Studied by Surface and Solution Techniques

    Author : Anna Bergstrand; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LDL; sepsis; PEG; LPS; lipopolysaccharide; QCM-D; SPR;

    Abstract : The interfacial behaviour of biomolecules in general and proteins in particular is interesting from a biochemical point of view since proteins are involved in processes such as complement activation, blood coagulation and atherosclerotic plaque formation, but also in the context of biomedical applications such as solid-phase diagnostics, therapeutic aphaeresis and biosensors. The objective of this thesis is to study biomolecular interactions using surface sensitive biosensor techniques such as surface plasmon resonance, SPR, in combination with bulk techniques. READ MORE
