  1. 1. Magnetic relaxation studies of self-associating and membrane proteins

    Author : Michael Gottschalk; Lund University Bioimaging Center; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; beta-lactoglobulin A; Biokemisk teknik; Biochemical technology; HEWL; BPTI; bacteriorhodopsin; protein self-association; membrane proteins; NMR; magnetic relaxation dispersion;

    Abstract : Magnetic relaxation dispersion measurements have been performed on aqueous protein solutions to study the dynamics of waters in the proton transport channel of bacteriorhodopsin and the self-association of the proteins BPTI, lysozyme and beta-lactoglobulin. The measurements have focused on the bulk relaxation rates, R1 and R2, of three water nuclei 1H, 2H and 17O that are coupled to the protein environments by exchange and therefore report on properties such as the protein tumbling and dynamics of internal waters. 2. 2. Cardiovascular beta-adrenergic signaling : Maturation and programming effects of hypoxia in a chicken model

    Author : Isa Lindgren; Jordi Altimiras; Eduardo Villamor; Laura Bennet; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Despite the importance of β-adrenergic receptors (βARs) in cardiovascular disease, not much is known about how prenatal hypoxia effects βAR signaling in the postnatal animal. Thus, the aim of this thesis was to characterize the pre- and postnatal maturation of the cardiovascular βARs and the effects of chronic prenatal hypoxia on βAR signaling in the embryo and adult animal using the chicken as experimental model. 3. 3. NMR studies of the amyloid beta-peptide

    Author : Jens Danielsson; Astrid Gräslund; Chris Dobson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NMR; amyloid beta peptide; structure; metal interaction; diffusion; Biophysics; Biofysik;

    Abstract : The Amyloid beta peptide (Ab) is related to Alzheimer’s disease and is suggested to be the molecular pathogenic species of the disease, probably through the neurotoxic effect of Ab oligomers. Here the results from biophysical studies of Ab and fragments thereof, are presented. READ MORE

  4. 4. NMR STUDIES ON STRUCTURE AND DYNAMICS OF TWO-DOMAIN PROTEINS

    Author : Houman Ghasriani; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism; Physical chemistry; Molekylär biofysik; CRISP-3; NMR; 3D-structure; NMR relaxation; Molecular biophysics; Prostate cancer; EGF module; PSP94; Beta-microseminoprotein; Protein S;

    Abstract : The general objective of the present thesis work was to examine 3-dimensional structure as well as the motional properties of two different types of two-domain proteins by solution-state NMR. One of the major tasks of this thesis work was to investigate the domain orientation of these molecules by employing residual dipolar couplings (RDC) which can be used as orientational restraints for increasing the accuracy of protein structures determined by NMR. 5. 5. Glass Transition Dynamics in Soft Condensed Matter

    Author : Johan Mattsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; polymer films; beta relaxation; hydrogen bond; glass transition; polymer dynamics; cooperativity; confinement; IXS; Brillouin light scattering; excess wing;

    Abstract : Materials of very different character, ranging from polymers to metals can be made into glasses. The structural and dynamical properties of glass-forming materials are fundamentally different from those found in crystals. Hence, glassy materials exhibit unique characteristics, which make them suitable for a wide range of applications. READ MORE
