  2. 2. Psychosocial stress in relation to blood pressure and cardivascular disease - epidemiological and genetic aspects

    Author : Bertil Öhlin; Internmedicin - epidemiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; receptor; Cardiovascular system; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; adrenergic; alpha-2; beta-1; mortality; morbidity; prospective; studies; polymorphism; work; stress; blood pressure; hypertension;

    Abstract : Psychosocial stress has been linked to both hypertension and cardiovascular disease (CVD), and hypertension has been proposed to be one mediator of the increased CVD risk in subjects reporting stress. Genetic susceptibility for blood pressure elevation in relation to stress has been proposed, but so far there is little evidence. READ MORE

  3. 3. Hemodynamic and cardiometabolic studies in patients with distributive circulatory dysfunctions : with special reference to the effects of the beta-1-adrenoreceptor agonist prenalterol

    Author : Sebastian Reiz; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; aortic aneurysm surgery; gram negative septic shock; hemodynamics; myocardial metabolism; thermodilution; thoracic epidural block; volume loading; prenalterol;

    Abstract : A total of 49 patients were studied, using invasive hemodynamic techniques with systemic arterial, pulmonary artery and right atrial pressure recordings together with thermodilution cardiac output determinations. Sixteen of the patients were also subjected to cardiometabolic studies, using measurement of coronary sinus blood flow by the continuous thermodilution technique and analyses of oxygen content and lactate concentration in the systemic and coronary circulation. 4. 4. Importance of cardiac reserve for evaluation and prediction of cardiac function and morbidity assessed by low-dose dobutamine stress echocardiography

    Author : Margareta Scharin Täng; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Stress echocardiography; Heart failure; Beta-1-adrenoceptor; Cardiac reserve;

    Abstract : This thesis aimed to evaluate the cardiac reserves capacity to be used to predict treatment effects, sub clinical heart disease and to evaluate b1-adrenoceptor (AR) gene polymorphism (Ser49Gly). Studies were performed in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy, in rats (young, healthy, diabetic and hypertensive), in mice (immunized against the ?1AR) and in heart-transplanted patients. 5. 5. Studies of the tumor-vasculature interface : role of TGF-beta 1-induced epithelial to mesenchymal transition

    Author : Mei-Fong Pang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Tumor metastasis is a complex multistep process. Among key steps that occur during metastatic spread are acquisition of tumor cell motility, intravasation of tumor cells into blood or lymphatic vessels and extravasation of tumor cells at distal sites. However, the precise mechanisms that govern these metastatic steps remain elusive. READ MORE
