  1. 1. Cardiovascular beta-adrenergic signaling : Maturation and programming effects of hypoxia in a chicken model

    Author : Isa Lindgren; Jordi Altimiras; Eduardo Villamor; Laura Bennet; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Despite the importance of β-adrenergic receptors (βARs) in cardiovascular disease, not much is known about how prenatal hypoxia effects βAR signaling in the postnatal animal. Thus, the aim of this thesis was to characterize the pre- and postnatal maturation of the cardiovascular βARs and the effects of chronic prenatal hypoxia on βAR signaling in the embryo and adult animal using the chicken as experimental model. 3. 3. Treatment in Dilated Cardiomyopathy : with special emphasis on beta-adrenergic receptor blockade and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibition

    Author : Kjell Jansson; Rolf Nordlander; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a heart muscle disease of unknown origin, characterised by ventricular dilatation and impairment of systolic function. The basic treattnent is medical, according to different pharmacological principles. Evaluation of the severity of the disease and the effects of medication are important for optimal management. Abstract : The prevalence of obesity has over the last 40 years nearly tripled and obesity is one of the major risk factors of developing type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes was formerly called adultonset diabetes but today, probably due to the rise in childhood obesity, it is also seen in children and adolescents. READ MORE
