  1. 1. Experimental characterization and numerical modeling of compression perpendicular to the grain in wood and cross-laminated timber

    Author : Shaheda T. Akter; Thomas K. Bader; Erik Serrano; Jan Oscarsson; Reinhard Brandner; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; rolling shear; biaxial testing; stress combination; RT-plane; moisture influence; rolling shear creep; digital image correlation; strain field; CLT connection; rotational stiffness; rullskjuvning; biaxiell undersökning; spänningskombination; RT-plan; fuktpåverkan; krypning vid rullskjuving; digital bildkorrelation; töjningsfält; KLTanslutning; rotationsstyvhet; Byggteknik; Civil engineering;

    Abstract : Compression perpendicular to the grain (CPG) of wood is a typical loading situation in timber structures. It has been an extensively studied research topic for decades, due to the highly ductile behavior of wood under such loading, the large variations in mechanical properties, and the relevance of these properties in structural design. 2. 2. Modeling and experimental characterization of pearlitic rail steels subjected to large biaxial strains

    Author : Knut Andreas Meyer; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hyperelasto-plasticity; axial-torsion; kinematic hardening; biaxial loading; Pearlitic steel;

    Abstract : Large shear strains develop in the near-surface region under the running band of railway rails. Rolling Contact Fatigue (RCF) cracks often initiate in this region, causing major problems for the railway industry. However, characterization of the constitutive and fatigue behavior of this region is difficult due to the large gradient of properties. READ MORE

  3. 3. Material characterisation for crash modelling of composites

    Author : Thomas Bru; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mechanical testing; finite element analysis FEA ; non-crimp fabric NCF ; damage mechanics; carbon fibre composite; crushing;

    Abstract : The transport industry must find solutions to reduce its impact on climate change. A promising way to reduce the weight of vehicles and therefore to reduce the CO2 emissions is to introduce components made of lightweight composite materials, in particular carbon fibre reinforced plastics (CFRPs). 4. 4. Modelling of cyclic and viscous behaviour of thermomechanically loaded pearlitic steels; Application to tread braked railway wheels

    Author : Ali Esmaeili; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; rolling contact fatigue; plasticity; tread braking; full-scale brake rig testing; Railway wheels; finite element analyses; pearlitic steel; viscoplasticity; ratchetting; phase transformations;

    Abstract : In service, railway wheel and rail materials are subjected to high stresses and, in some cases, elevated temperatures. The high stresses are caused by the rolling contact between wheel and rail. Furthermore, heat generated from tread braking and/or sliding between wheel and rail gives additional stress due to constrained thermal expansion. READ MORE

  5. 5. On the out-of-plane mechanical behaviour of paper materials

    Author : Niclas Stenberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the through-thickness mechanicalbehaviour of paper materials. The material response undercombined normal and shear through-thickness loadings isfundamental for analysis and understanding of many end-use andconverting operations, such as folding, creasing, printing,calandering and cutting.
