  1. 1. Collagen VI - Molecular Assembly and Interactions

    University dissertation from Charlotte Wiberg, Dep of Cell and Molecular Biology, BMC Plan C12, SE-221 84 Lund, Sweden

    Author : Charlotte Wiberg; [2001]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical biology; extracellular matrix; glycosaminoglycan; proteoglycan; collagen; biglycan; decorin; Klinisk biologi;

    Abstract : The extracellular matrix plays an integral role in tissue remodeling and development and it defines the different mechanical properties of a variety of connective tissues. Its complexity in composition and the details in organization has only been partly elucidated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Biosynthesis of Dermatan Sulphate. Enzymatic mechanism and role of cytokines

    University dissertation from Kerstin Tiedemann, Dept of Cell and Molecular Biology, Box 94, 221 00 Lund, Sweden

    Author : Kerstin Tiedemann; [2000]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dermatan sulphate; 4-O-sulfotransferase; Co-polymeric structure; biglycan; decorin; Biochemistry; Biokemi; C5-epimerase; Metabolism;

    Abstract : Dermatan sulphate is a prominent feature of several different proteoglycans and occurs in almost every tissue of the body. It is an unbranched polymer containing the repeating disaccharide unit of N-acetylgalactosamine and D-glucuronic acid or L-iduronic acid. READ MORE

  3. 3. Biglycan as a modulator of fibrous connective tissue

    University dissertation from Ellen Tufvesson, BMC, C13, Lund University, 221 84 Lund

    Author : Ellen Tufvesson; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; biglycan decorin fibroblast interleukin-1beta migration proteoglycan structure tumour necrosis factor-alpha; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ;

    Abstract : Fibrous connective tissue contains fibroblasts distributed in a complex network of extracellular matrix molecules, such as proteoglycans. The small proteoglycans biglycan and decorin are composed of a protein core substituted with two and one glycosaminoglycan (GAG) chain, respectively. READ MORE

  4. 4. Ultraviolet radiation and cornea

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, -

    Author : Alexander Podskochy; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cornea; UVR; keratocytes; apoptosis; Fas ligand; hyaluronan; biglycan; rabbit; wound healing.;

    Abstract : Results. UVR at subthreshold doses did not produce any corneal damage that could be detected in the light microscope. Apoptosis was detected to be one important mechanism leading to corneal cell damage after UVR exposure at photokeratitis doses. Photokeratitis doses at 270, 280, and 290 inn led to a superficial corneal damage. READ MORE

  5. 5. The role of leucine-rich repeat glycoproteins/proteoglycans in the assembly of collagen matrices

    University dissertation from Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Lund University

    Author : Liz Svensson; [1999]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reumatologi; muskelsystem; Skelett; decorin; Collagen; fibromodulin; extracellular matrix; lumican; collagen fibrillogenesis; Skeleton; rheumatology locomotion; muscle system; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Metabolism;

    Abstract : The properties of different connective tissues depend on the synthesis and assembly of macromolecular structures composed of collagen and other extracellular matrix components. Mechanisms modulating these events play important roles in the formation of a functional tissue. READ MORE
