  1. 16. Tendinosis in Trigger Finger

    Author : Anna-Carin Lundin; Per Aspenberg; Pernilla Eliasson T.; Johann Zdolsek; Göran Nylander; Lars Dahlin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Trigger finger is one of the most common hand conditions, with a prevalence of almost 3%. The aetiology remains unclear even though many causes have been suggested. The prevailing paradigm is that the pathogenesis of trigger finger is ascribed to primary changes in the first fibrous condensation of the tendon sheath (A1-pulley). READ MORE

  2. 17. Tissue remodelling in pulmonary fibrosis linked to 5-HT2 receptor activation

    Author : Anna Löfdahl; Lungbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Serotonin 5HT ; Serotonin class 2 receptor antagonist; Fibroblast; Pulmonary fibrosis; Extracellular matrix ECM ;

    Abstract : After an injury, an immediate reparative response is triggered to replace the damaged tissue, however, in fibrosis, cells remain active despite wound resolution causing a steady build-up of fibrotic tissue. In pulmonary fibrosis,there is a constant regeneration and remodelling of lung tissue where the thin architecture of alveoli become thickened, hampering efficient diffusion of oxygen, as seen in diseases like idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). 3. 18. Fatty acids induce potentially atherogenic changes in extracellular matrix proteoglycans

    Author : Mariam Rodríguez-Lee; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : proteoglycans; glycosaminoglycans; fatty acids; smooth muscle cells; hepatocytes; LDL binding; remnant clearance; insulin resistance; type 2 diabetes;

    Abstract : Insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are associated with an increased prevalence of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD). A key step in the initiation of atherogenesis is retention of low density lipoproteins (LDL) in the intima by chondroitin sulfate (CS)-rich proteoglycans (PG). READ MORE

  4. 19. Malignant mesothelioma : an experimental study with emphasis on proteoglycans in mesothelial cell growth and differentiation

    Author : Katalin Dobra; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Malignant mesothelioma; differentiation; syndecan; nuclear transport; PG profile.;

    Abstract : Malignant mesothelioma is a highly aggressive tumor with median survival ranging from 4 to 12 months and, despite intense therapeutical efforts, it is invariably fatal. Mesothelioma cells are unique in the sense that they possess a biphasic growth potential and can be stimulated by serum growth factors to differentiate into stable epithelial or fibrous phenotypes. 5. 20. Stress urinary incontinence in women : pathophysiological aspects

    Author : Christian Falconer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : menopause; paraurethral connective tissue; extracellular matrix; collagen. proteoglycans; sensory innervation; intravaginal slingplasty.;

    Abstract : Objective: The pathophysiology of female stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is multifactorial. In this thesis biochemical and ultrastructural changes in the paraurethral supporting connective tissue and changes in the innervation of the vaginal wall in relation to SUI have been focused upon.
