1. Nanosized Bilayer Disks as Model Membranes for Interaction Studies
Abstract : PEG-lipid stabilized bilayer disks have been found in lipid mixtures containing polyethylene glycol (PEG)-lipids where the combination of a high bending rigidity and low PEG-lipid/lipid miscibility favours disk formation. The disks are planar and circular in shape and their long-term stability is excellent. READ MORE

2. Controlling DNA compaction and the interaction with model biomembranes
Abstract : The studies described in this thesis forms part of a larger collaborative project, Neonuclei, with the objective to design a module for packaging the negatively charged DNA into a ”neonucleus” with transcription competence. There are many applications that require control of DNA compaction, i.e. packaging or condensation. READ MORE

3. Partitioning of Drugs and Lignin Precursor Models into Artificial Membranes
Abstract : The main aim of this thesis was to characterize membrane-solute interactions using artificial membranes in immobilized liposome chromatography or capillary electrophoresis. The partitioning of a solute into a cell membrane is an essential step in diffusion across the membrane. READ MORE

4. Polarized light spectroscopy studies of model membranes and DNA
Abstract : Over the past decades Linear Dichroism (LD) spectroscopy has proven to be a powerful tool for studies of structure and functioning of different cell constituents, including DNA, cell membranes and proteins. Due to structural complexity of cell constituents, the LD studies of biomolecules depend on development of simplified model systems, which can mimic the original structure and functionality of the cell components. 5. Drug Partitioning into Natural and Artificial Membranes : Data Applicable in Predictions of Drug Absorption
Abstract : When drug molecules are passively absorbed through the cell membrane in the small intestine, the first key step is partitioning of the drug into the membrane. Partition data can therefore be used to predict drug absorption. READ MORE
