1. Bilinear Regression and Second Order Calibration
Abstract : We consider calibration of second-order (or "hyphenated") instruments for chemical analysis. Many such instruments generate bilinear two-way (matrix) type data for each specimen. The bilinear regression model is to be estimated from a number of specimens of known composition. READ MORE

2. Residual Analysis in the GMANOVA-MANOVA Model
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the establishment and analysis of residuals in the so called GMANOVA-MANOVA model. The model is a special case of the Extended Growth Curve Model. It has two terms where one term models the profiles (growth curves) and the other the covariables of interest. READ MORE

3. Bilinear and Trilinear Regression Models with Structured Covariance Matrices
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the problem of estimating parameters in bilinear and trilinear regression models in which random errors are normally distributed. In these models the covariance matrix has a Kronecker product structure and some factor matrices may be linearly structured. READ MORE

4. Adaptive finite element methods for plate bending problems
Abstract : The major theme of the thesis is the development of goal-oriented model adaptive continuous-discontinuous Galerkin (c/dG) finite element methods (FEM), for the numerical solution of the Kirchhoff and Mindlin-Reissner (MR) plate models. Hierarchical modeling for linear elasticity on thin domains (beam-like) in two spatial dimensions is also considered, as a natural extension of the Bernoulli and Timoshenko beam theories. READ MORE

5. Estimation Problems in Array Signal Processing, System Identification, and Radar Imagery
Abstract : This thesis is concerned with parameter estimation, signal processing, and applications. In the first part, imaging using radar is considered. More specifically, two methods are presented for estimation and removal of ground-surface reflections in ground penetrating radar which otherwise hinder reliable detection of shallowly buried landmines.
