  1. 1. Modeling and Control of Bilinear Systems : Application to the Activated Sludge Process

    Author : Mats Ekman; Bengt Carlsson; Claes Breitholtz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bilinear systems; modeling; optimal control; parameter estimation; errors-in-variables; activated sludge process; Automatic control; Reglerteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns modeling and control of bilinear systems (BLS). BLS are linear but not jointly linear in state and control. In the first part of the thesis, a background to BLS and their applications to modeling and control is given. READ MORE

  2. 2. Bilinear optimization in computational decision analysis

    Author : Xiaosong Ding; Love Ekenberg; Ahti Salo; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer and systems science; Data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : In real-life decision analysis, significant recognition has been given to theunrealistic expectation of numerically precise information. Many modernapproaches attempting to handle imprecision have focused more on representationand less on evaluation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fast local optimization in decision analytic software

    Author : Xiasong Ding; Love Ekenberg; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bilinear programming; decision analysis; optimization; linear progamming; decision support systems; iterative method; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Abstract : In decision analysis, significant recognition has been given to the fact that requiring numerically precise information seems unrealistic for real-life decision situations, Despite the emergence of many modern apporaches, which attempt to handle imprecise estimates, concentration has focused more on representation and less on evaluation. Methods such as the DELTA method  challenged this issue by its evaluation framework that can accommodate both precision an imprecision, and thus pushes forward the disign of advanced dicision analysis systems. 4. 4. Systems of Linear First Order Partial Differential Equations Admitting a Bilinear Multiplication of Solutions

    Author : Jens Jonasson; Stefan Rauch; Sergio Benenti; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cauchy–Riemann equations; holomorphic functions; algebra; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK;

    Abstract : The Cauchy–Riemann equations admit a bilinear multiplication of solutions, since the product of two holomorphic functions is again holomorphic. This multiplication plays the role of a nonlinear superposition principle for solutions, allowing for construction of new solutions from already known ones, and it leads to the exceptional property of the Cauchy–Riemann equations that all solutions can locally be built from power series of a single solution z = x + iy ∈ C. Abstract : Linear matrix equations and nonlinear eigenvalue problems (NEP) appear in a wide variety of applications in science and engineering. Important special cases of the former are the Lyapunov equation, the Sylvester equation, and their respective generalizations. These appear, e.g. READ MORE
