1. Efficient Document Image Binarization using Heterogeneous Computing and Interactive Machine Learning
Abstract : Large collections of historical document images have been collected by companies and government institutions for decades. More recently, these collections have been made available to a larger public via the Internet. However, to make accessing them truly useful, the contained images need to be made readable and searchable. READ MORE

2. Data and Time Efficient Historical Document Analysis
Abstract : Over the last decades companies and government institutions have gathered vast collections of images of historical handwritten documents. In order to make these collections truly useful to the broader public, images suffering from degradations, such as faded ink, bleed through or stains, need to be made readable and the collections as a whole need to be made searchable. 3. Improving image quality in multi-channel printing - multilevel halftoning, color separation and graininess characterization
Abstract : Color printing is traditionally achieved by separating an input image into four channels (CMYK) and binarizing them using halftoning algorithms, in order to designate the locations of ink droplet placement. Multi-channel printing means a reproduction that employs additional inks other than these four in order to augment the color gamut (scope of reproducible colors) and reduce undesirable ink droplet visibility, so-called graininess. 4. A Play of Light and Spins: Excitation and Detection of Non-linear Magnetization Dynamics using Light
Abstract : The excitation and detection of magnetization dynamics play key roles in the field of spintronics and magnonics. In this thesis, we investigate a contactless method of exciting nonlinear magnetization dynamics using a femtosecond pulsed laser, and study the same with a Brillouin Light Scattering (BLS) microscope. 5. Computer vision for rock aggregates
Abstract : Measurement of size, shape and texture of aggregates (rockparticles) is often used in geological mapping, rockclassification, quarry and mine production. The size ofaggregates varies from micro-meters to meters, and the types ofaggregates may be classified as natural (i.e. sandstone, graveland 'natural blocks') and artificial (i. READ MORE
