  1. 21. The eukaryotic ribosome in focus : a chemical footprinting analysis of ribosome-ligand interactions in in vivo assembled complexes

    Author : Marika Salonen Sloma; Diarmaid Hughes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Zoological Cell Biology; zoologisk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Protein synthesis is an essential biological process that occurs on ribosomes. The process requires an involvement of numerous components like mRNA, tRNA and translation factors. The mammalian 80S ribosome, the focus of this thesis, is composed of four rRNAs and approximately 80 proteins distributed in two subunits the 40S and 60S subunit. READ MORE

  2. 22. Genome-Wide Studies of Transcriptional Regulation in Mammalian Cells

    Author : Ola Wallerman; Claes Wadelius; Jussi Taipale; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ChIP; ChIP-chip; ChIP-seq; transcription factors; motif discovery; nucleosome positioning; HepG2; genome-wide; RNA-seq; Medical genetics; Medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics; Medicinsk genetik;

    Abstract : The key to the complexity of higher organisms lies not in the number of protein coding genes they carry, but rather in the intrinsic complexity of the gene regulatory networks. The major effectors of transcriptional regulation are proteins called transcription factors, and in this thesis four papers describing genome-wide studies of seven such factors are presented, together with studies on components of the chromatin and transcriptome. 3. 23. EWSR1 and FUS fusion genes in tumorigenesis

    Author : Emely Möller; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The present thesis concerns the involvement of EWSR1 and FUS fusion genes, and the chimeric proteins they encode, in tumorigenesis. In Article I, the EWSR1 promoter, which regulates the expression of EWSR1 fusion genes, was characterized and regions that were crucial for promoter activity could be identified. READ MORE

  4. 24. Studies on two transcription regulatory proteins : cellular c-Jun and adenovirus E1A

    Author : Kerstin Sollerbrant; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : adenovirus; EIA; EIB; transcription; CtBP; c-Jun; Gal4;

    Abstract : Adenoviruses cause lytic infections in a range of mammalian cells, but can in certain cases also transform the host cell. The first adenovirus gene to be expressed upon infection is E1A. The E1A gene encodes two major proteins of 243 and 289 amino acids, respectively, both of which serve as key regulators during virus infection. READ MORE

  5. 25. Characterization of Substance P (SP) Aminoterminal SP (1-7) Binding in Brain Regions and Spinal Cord of the Male Rat : Studies on the Interaction with Opioid Related Pathways

    Author : Milad Botros; Fred Nyberg; Tsukasa Sakurada; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biological research on drug dependence; Biologisk beroendeforskning;

    Abstract : Binding sites for substance P(1-7), SP(1-7) have been identified and characterized for the first time in crude membrane fraction from rat CNS using tritiated ([3H]) SP(1-7) as tracer. These putative receptors were investigated in relation to their affinity for tachykinins, opioid peptides and sigma receptor ligands. READ MORE
