1. Bio-refinery system integrated with pulp and paper mills using black liquor gasification
Abstract : Mitigation of climate change and energy security are major driving forces for increased biomass energy utilization. The pulp and paper industry consumes a large proportion of biomass worldwide that include bark, wood residues, and black liquor. READ MORE

2. Nanostructured materials isolated from bio-residues, and their characterization
Abstract : The use of natural components in nanocomposites has continuously increased, due to environmental problems that are growing day by day. The use of bio-residues from forest industries to develop new materials will not only alleviate ecological problems but also affect the economy of forest industries positively. READ MORE

3. Analysing performance of bio-refinery systems by integrating black liquor gasification with chemical pulp mills
Abstract : Mitigation of climate change and energy security are major driving forces for increased biomass utilization. The pulp and paper industry consumes a large proportion of the biomass worldwide including bark, wood residues, and black liquor. READ MORE

4. Preparation and characterization of nanocellulose films and coatings from industrial bio-residues
Abstract : The aim of this work has been to study cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) from bio-residues and their use as green coating materials. In the first part of this work, physical and chemical properties of different types of cellulose nanocrystals, from different raw material sources and different treatments were compared. READ MORE

5. Synchrotron radiation studies of gas phase molecules : from hydrogen to DNA sugars
Abstract : This thesis summarises experimental results on the molecular spectroscopy of gas phase molecules excited by synchrotron radiation in the VUV and soft X-ray regions. We have used three different detection techniques, photon induced fluorescence spectroscopy, photoionisation mass spectroscopy and near edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy to study molecular deuterium, hydrogen sulphide, ammonia, methanol, pyridine, pyridazine, pyrimidine, pyrazine, s-triazine, and 2-deoxy-D-ribose, the last one also known as the DNA sugar.
