  1. 1. True Monoliths as Separation Media : Homogeneous Gels for Electrophoresis and Electrochromatography in the Capillary and Microchip Modes

    Author : Ákos Végvári; Douglas Westerlund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; capillary electrophoresis; capillary electrochromatography; gel electrophoresis; agarose; polyacrylamide; b-cyclodextrin; DNA; peptide; glutathione; drug enantiomers; microchip; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : The thesis focuses on the development of new homogeneous gels for the separation of drug enantiomers, peptides, DNA and virus by electrophoresis and electrochromatography in capillaries and microchips. This type of separation media offers high resolution and small zone broadening. READ MORE

  2. 2. Proteomics in biomarker research : Insights into the effects of aging and environment on biological systems

    Author : Hanna Amelina; Susana Cristobal; Jean-Charles Sanchez; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; proteomics; biomarker; peroxisomes; 2-dimensional gel electrophoresis 2-DE ; mass spectrometry MS ; aging; marine pollution; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Environmental toxicology; Miljötoxikologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Proteomics is the global analysis of proteins that covers a broad range of technologies aimed at determining the identity and quantity of proteins expressed in the cell, their three-dimensional structure and interaction partners. In contrast to genome, proteome reflects more accurately on the dynamic state of the cell, tissue, or an organism. READ MORE

  3. 3. Unwarping and Analysing Electrophoresis Gels

    Author : John Gustafsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Classification; Curved field lines; Gel matching; Image alignment; Image warping; Proteomics; Pulse-field gel electrophoresis; Two-dimensional electrophoresis; Variation; Yeast; Gel matching;

    Abstract : Gel electrophoresis is a technology in molecular biology that is used to separate and quantify biomolecules, for example DNA and proteins. Ideally the position in a gel image corresponds to one or several properties of the molecules, such as size and net charge, but in practise the separation pattern is often warped, that is, geometrically distorted. 4. 4. Influences of in vivo and in vitro loading on the proteoglycan synthesis of articular cartilage chondrocytes

    Author : Mikko Lammi; Markku Tammi; Jukka Finne; Tim Hardingham; Finland Kuopio University of Kuopio Department of Anatomy; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Articular cartilage; proteoglycans; loading; stress; hydrostatic pressure; biokemi; Biochemistry; cell research; cellforskning; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; ortopedi; Orthopaedics;

    Abstract : In this study, the biosynthesis of proteoglycans (PGs) was examined in articular cartilage of canine hip joint after long-distance running experiment and in bovine chondrocyte cultures during in vitro loading with hydrostatic pressure. In addition, new assays were developed for more sensitive quantitation of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and PGs. READ MORE

  5. 5. New approaches to concentration, desalting and separation of biopolymers in capillary electrophoresis

    Author : Rong Zhang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : In the first part of the thesis five new on-tube methods for concentration and desalting ofampholytes, such as peptides and proteins, are described in Papers I and II. The methods arebased on the fact that electrophoretic migration velocities decrease upon a decrease in theabsolute value of the zeta potential of a solute and the pore size of the electrophoresis mediumand upon an increase in the cross section of the electrophoresis chamber, the viscosity and theelectrical conductivity of the electrophoresis medium.
