1. Cannabinoids as modulators of cancer cell viability, neuronal differentiation, and embryonal development
Abstract : Cannabinoids (CBs) are compounds that activate the CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB receptors mediate many different physiological functions, and cannabinoids have been reported to decrease tumor cell viability, proliferation, migration, as well as to modulate metastasis. READ MORE

2. Novel Fatty Acid Dioxygenases of Human and Plant Pathogenic Fungi : Studies by Gene Deletion and Expression
Abstract : The dioxygenase-cytochrome P450 fusion proteins (DOX-CYP) comprise a heme-containing enzyme family that shares structural and catalytic properties with mammalian prostaglandin H (PGH) synthases. 7,8-Linoleate diol synthase (7,8-LDS) of Gaeumannomyces graminis was first characterized, and DOX-CYP enzymes are of mechanistic and biological interest. 3. Mass Spectrometric Analysis of Oxylipins : Application to Cytochrome P450-Dependent Metabolism
Abstract : Cytochrome P450 (CYP) family 4 constitutes monoxygenases responsible for hydroxylation of fatty acids and other lipids. For example, CYP4F3 metabolizes leukotrienes and CYP4F8 prostaglandin H. Importantly, six of the twelve CYP4 enzymes are orphans, i.e. READ MORE

4. UDP-sugar metabolizing pyrophosphorylases in plants : formation of precursors for essential glycosylation-reactions
Abstract : UDP-sugar metabolizing pyrophosphorylases provide the primary mechanism for de novo synthesis of UDP-sugars, which can then be used for myriads of glycosyltranferase reactions, producing cell wall carbohydrates, sucrose, glycoproteins and glycolipids, as well as many other glycosylated compounds. The pyrophosphorylases can be divided into three families: UDP-Glc pyrophosphorylase (UGPase), UDP-sugar pyrophosphorylase (USPase) and UDP-N-acety lglucosamine pyrophosphorylase (UAGPase), which can be discriminated both by differences in accepted substrate range and amino acid sequences. 5. The structural basis for the catalytic specificity of manganese lipoxygenases : 3D structure analysis of the lipoxygenase of Magnaporthe oryzae
Abstract : Lipoxygenases (LOX) catalyze regio- and stereospecific oxygenation of polyunsaturated fatty acids to hydroperoxides. These hydroperoxides are further metabolized to leukotrienes and lipoxins in mammals, and are involved in asthma and inflammation. LOX of animals and plants contain iron as catalytic metal (FeLOX).
