1. Genome-wide study of HDACs and transcription in Schizosaccharomyces pombe
Abstract : The eukaryotic genome has to be organized to fit into the cell and this is achieved by packing of DNA into chromatin. The basic repeating structural unit of chromatin is the nucleosome, which consists of DNA wrapped around histone proteins. READ MORE

2. Structural Studies of O-Polysaccharides from Diarrhoeal Escherichia coli
Abstract : This thesis describes the structural analysis of O-polysaccharides from the Gram-negative bacterium Escherichia coli that is a diarrhoeal pathogen. The Escherichia coli serotypes investigated were O178, O171, O166 and O128. The methods used in these studies were nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and component analysis. READ MORE

3. Carbohydrate and metabonomic studies by NMR spectroscopy
Abstract : NMR spectroscopy can be used to investigate organic and biomolecular structures, both as pure compounds and in complex mixtures. In this thesis NMR spectroscopy was used for carbohydrate and metabonomic studies. READ MORE

4. Synthesis of some oligosaccharide fragments of biological and chemical interest using thioglycosides
Abstract : This thesis describes the synthesis of oligosaccharide derivatives corresponding to the repeating unit of the O-antigen from two different bacteria, Shigella dysenteriae type 1 and Salmonella thompson serogroup Ci, and fragments thereof. Synthesis of a decasaccharide of chemical interest for studying carbohydrate dynamics in elongated molecules is also described. READ MORE

5. Synthesis, structure and conformation of oligo- and polysaccharides
Abstract : Carbohydrates are a complex group of biomolecules with a high structural diversity. Their almost omnipresent occurrence has generated a broad field of research in both biology and chemistry. This thesis focuses on three different aspects of carbohydrate chemistry, synthesis, structure elucidation and the conformational analysis of carbohydrates. READ MORE
