6. Wastewater treatment and biomass generation by Nordic microalgae : growth in subarctic climate and microbial interactions
Abstract : Nordic native microalgal strains were isolated, genetically classified and tested for their ability to grow in municipal wastewater. Eight of the isolated strains could efficiently remove nitrogen and phosphate in less than two weeks. Two of these strains, Coelastrella sp. READ MORE

7. Nitrogen removal in treatment wetlands : Factors influencing spatial and temporal variations
Abstract : Decreasing the nitrogen transport from land to surrounding seas is a major task throughout the world to limit eutrophication of the coastal areas. Several approaches are currently used, including the establishment of wetlands, to decrease the transport of nitrogen. READ MORE

8. Stochastic modelling and analysis of early mouse development
Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to model and describe dynamical events for biological cells using statistical and mathematical tools. The thesis includes five papers that all relate to stochastic modelling of cells. READ MORE

9. Treatment of domestic wastewater using microbiological processes and hydroponics in Sweden
Abstract : Conventional end-of-pipe solutions for wastewater treatment have been criticized from a sustainable view-point, in particular regarding recycling of nutrients. The integration of hydroponic cultivation into a wastewater treatment system has been proposed as an ecological alternative, where nutrients can be removed from the wastewater through plant uptake; however, cultivation of plants in a temperate climate, such as Sweden, implies that additional energy is needed during the colder and darker period. 10. Investigations of the microbial diversity and dynamics in activated sludge using molecular methods
Abstract : Wastewater treatment is necessary to reduce the health risks and environmental impacts associated with discharge of untreated wastewater. The most common way to treat wastewater in wastewater treatment plants is through the activated sludge process. READ MORE
