  1. 1. Study of Catalyst Deactivation in Three Different Industrial Processes

    Author : Ann-Charlotte Larsson; Mehri Sanati; Ferruccio Trifiro; Växjö universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; deactivation; catalyst; SCR; VOC; steam reforming; aerosol particle; potassium; zinc; ash salts; biomass; organosilicon; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Deactivation of catalysts were investigated focusing on three industrial processes: 1) Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) for abatement of NOx from biomass combustion using V2O5-WO3 /TiO2 catalysts; 2) Catalytic oxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOC) from printing industries using a Pt/γ-Al2O3 catalyst; and 3) Ni and Pt/Rh catalysts used in steam reforming reaction of bio-syngas obtained from biomass gasification.The aim has been to simulate industrial conditions in laboratory experiments in order to comprehend influence of compounds affecting catalysts performance. 2. 2. Catalyst Design for the Valorisation of Biomass-derived Furans into Aromatics

    Author : Guido J.L. de Reijer; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aromatics; 2; 5-dimethylfuran; gallium; biomass; furans; production of aromatics; zeolites; biomass conversion; catalysis;

    Abstract : Anno 2023, mankind must strive towards a more sustainable chemical industry; one that does not solely rely on fossil fuels but also utilises renewable feedstocks such as biomass. Biomass can be catalytically converted into commodity chemicals such as aromatics, through intermediates like furans. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mild Wet Torrefaction and Characterization of Woody Biomass from Mozambique for Thermal Applications

    Author : Carlos Alberto Cuvilas; Weihong Weihong Yang; Tobias Richards; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biomass; Wet torrefaction; Fast Pyrolysis; kinetics; Catalyst;

    Abstract : Mozambique has vast forestry resources and also considerable biomass waste material such as bagasse, rice husks, sawdust, coconut husks and shells, cashew nut shell and lump charcoal waste. The potential of the total residues from the agricultural sector and the forest industry is estimated to be approximately 13 PJ. READ MORE

  4. 4. Biomass gasification in ABFB : Tar mitigation

    Author : Nemanova Vera; Klas Engvall; Joan Salvadó; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ash; biomass; char; gasification; iron-based; petcoke; tar; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Biomass gasification may be an attractive alternative for meeting future energy demand. Although gasification is a mature technology, it has yet to be fully commercialised due to tar formation. This study focuses on the tar mitigation in gas produced in an atmospheric bubbling fluidised bed (ABFB) gasification system. READ MORE

  5. 5. Fractionation of woody biomass : lignin and suberin in focus

    Author : Ivan Kumaniaev; Joseph Samec; Claudia Crestini; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lignocellulose; lignin; suberin; biomass; palladium; catalysis; flow chemistry; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis is dedicated to the research of fractionation and valorization of different types of woody biomass. In the first part, oak (Quercus suber) and birch (Betula pendula) barks are considered. Bark is the outer layer of wood and is treated as waste in the current wood processing technologies. READ MORE
