  1. 1. Upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor : modelling

    Author : Raul Rodriguez; Luis Moreno; Olle Wahlberg; Gunno Renman; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; wastewater; anaerobic treatment; modelling; UASB reactor.; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Anaerobic treatment is widely used around the world as a biological stage in both domestic and industrial wastewater-treatment plants. The two principal advantages of anaerobic over aerobic treatment are the production of biogas, which can be used as fuel, and the lower rate of biomass production, which results in lower maintenance costs for the plant. 2. 2. Volumetric combustion of torrefied biomass for large percentage biomass co-firing up to 100% fuel switch

    Author : Jun Li; Weihong Yang; Günter Scheffknecht; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Biomass; co-firing; torrefaction; torrefaction degree; kinetics; volumetric combustion; fuel switch;

    Abstract : The co-firing of biomass and coal plays an important role in increasing the biomass power capacity and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The challenges of the large percentage biomass co-firing (over 20% on energy basis) in existing pulverized coal boilers are keeping the same steam parameters and having a high boiler efficiency and a stable operating. 3. 3. Closing the Loop by Combining UASB Reactor and Reactive Bed Filetr Technology for wastewater Treatment : Modelling and Practical Approaches

    Author : Raúl Rodríguez-Gómez; Gunno Renman; Björn Vinnerås; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Bench-scale experiment; Modelling; Polonite; Sorbulite; UASB; Wastewater; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : A laboratory-scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor followed by a packed bed reactor (PBR) filled with Sorbulite® in the lower part and Polonite® in the upper part was used to treat household wastewater in a 50-week experiment. A model was developed to describe the performance of the UASB reactor, including mass transfer through the film around anaerobic granules, intra-particle diffusion and bioconversion of the substrate. 4. 4. Fundamental Study of two Selected Tropical Biomasses for Energy : coconut and cashew nut shells

    Author : Alberto Júlio Tsamba; Wlodzimierz Blasiak; A. K. Gupta; KTH; []
    Keywords : Cashew nut shells; coconut shells; biomass; thermogravimetry; pyrolysis; kinetics; combustion; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract :  Cashew nut and coconut shells are two potential renewable and environmentally friendly energy sources that are commonly found as agro-industrial wastes in tropical countries. Despite this fact, they are not yet widely studied as such. READ MORE

  5. 5. Particle dynamics during biomass devolatilization : Momentum exchange and particle dispersion

    Author : Angel David Garcia Llamas; Kentaro Umeki; Rikard Gebart; Per Gren; Peter Glarborg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biomass; devolatilization; rocketing; PIV; PTV; Energiteknik; Energy Engineering;

    Abstract : Devolatilization is a heat-driven thermochemical process in which a liquid or a solid fuel releases mass in the form of volatile compounds after drying, as a result of the combination of endothermic and exothermic reactions. It differs from pyrolysis in that it does not require an inert atmosphere and that the reactant must be either solid or liquid. READ MORE
