  1. 1. From torrefaction to gasification : Pilot scale studies for upgrading of biomass

    Author : Martin Strandberg; Anders Nordin; Linda Pommer; Jaap Kiel; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Torrefaction; biomass; pilot scale; continuous reactor; grindability; entrained flow gasification; degree of torrefaction; biomass powder;

    Abstract : Increasing the share of biomass, preferably by replacing fossil fuels, is one way to mitigate the present climate change. Fossil coal can be directly replaced by co-combustion of coal and biomass and fossil engine fuels (gasoline and diesel) could potentially partly be replaced by synthetic renewable fuels produced via entrained flow gasification of biomass. 2. 2. Alkali-enhanced gasification of biomass : laboratory-scale experimental studies

    Author : Albert Bach-Oller; Kentaro Umeki; Viktor Scherer; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; alkali; biomass; gasification; tar; soot; potassium; char; syngas; enhanced; Energiteknik; Energy Engineering;

    Abstract : Gasification seeks to break carbonaceous materials into synthetic gas (CO+H2) which can be subsequently upgraded into valuable products. Thus gasification can be utilized to convert low grade biomass stocks into carbon-neutral chemicals heat and power. READ MORE

  3. 3. Structural and solid state EMF studies of phases in the CaO–K2O–P2O5 system with relevance for biomass combustion

    Abstract : Reducing the global dependence on fossil fuels is of paramount importance in tackling the environmental challenges we face, not only tomorrow, but already today. Biomass offers a renewable supply of CO2-neutral raw material that can be converted into many different forms of fuels and valuable chemicals, making it a prime candidate for the technologies of tomorrow. 5. 5. Entrained flow gasification of biomass : On atomisation, transport processes and gasification reactions

    Author : Mikael Risberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy Engineering; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : Since the energy consumption in the world is increasing together with an increase of greenhouse gas emission it is of importance to find alternatives to fossil fuels. Biomass is one of the alternative energy sources which is both renewable and CO2 neutral. READ MORE
