  1. 1. The linear and nonlinear biomechanics of the middle ear

    Author : Thomas Wright; KTH.; [2005]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biotechnology; biomechanics; middle ear models; ossicular chain; Bioteknik; TECHNOLOGY Bioengineering; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Bioteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses the biomechanics of the human middle ear, that part of the auditory system which converts sound pressure waves in air to fluid pressure waves in the cochlea. The middle ear's mechanism is analysed in four papers, three main and one supporting; in the main papers the middle ear is treated as a multi-particle, multi-rigid body ensemble possessing a variable number of degrees of freedom depending upon the case being investigated. 2. 2. Role of Caveolae and miRNAs in Regulation of Urinary Bladder Function

    University dissertation from Cellular Biomechanics

    Author : Mardjaneh Karbalaei; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2014]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The urinary bladder is responsible for storage and expulsion of urine. Proper urination depends on an ability of the bladder to adjust to increasing volume and to contract during micturition. A disturbance of bladder contractility may affect continence. READ MORE

  3. 3. Computational Biomechanics in Cross-country Skiing

    University dissertation from Institutionen för ekonomisk och industriell utveckling

    Author : Joakim L. Holmberg; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2008]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Computer simulation; Inverse dynamics; Musculoskeletal; Optimization; Simulation model; Sports; Computational Biomechanics; Cross‐country Skiing; TECHNOLOGY Engineering mechanics; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : Traditionally, research on cross‐country skiing biomechanics is based mainly on experimental testing alone. Trying a different approach, this thesis explores the possibilities of using computational musculoskeletal biomechanics for cross‐country skiing. As far as the author knows, this has not been done before. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cholesterol-lowering and anti-atherogenic effects of oats in mice

    University dissertation from Institutionen för ekonomisk och industriell utveckling

    Author : Kristina E Andersson; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2009]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cholesterol; Inflammation; Bile acids; Atherosclerosis; Oats; Beta-glucans;

    Abstract : The cholesterol-lowering effect of oats is well established, but the crucial properties eliciting this effect need to be further investigated to optimize the use of oats as functional foods. Furthermore, there are almost no reports investigating the effect of oats on atherosclerosis development. READ MORE

  5. 5. Developmental regulation of smooth muscle contraction in the urinary bladder

    University dissertation from Mari Ekman

    Author : Mari Ekman; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2008]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; newborn; Rho-kinase; cellular signaling; muscarinic receptors; calcium sensitivity; protein kinase C; non-muscle myosin; myosin light chain phosphatase;

    Abstract : Smooth muscle cells in the urinary bladder are involved in the control of urine filling and emptying. We have used mice to study the contractile regulation of urinary bladder smooth muscle during the fetal period. READ MORE
