6. Insights into weak affinity antibody-antigen interactionsStudies using affinity chromatography and optical biosensor
Abstract : Molecular recognition and interaction is fundamental for the function of biological systems. The properties of the interacting biomolecules dictate the type of forces involved and the strength and dynamics of the interaction. Many interactions are very strong whereas others exhibit weak affinity. READ MORE

7. Conformational Stability!? : Synthesis and Conformational Studies of Unnatural Backbone Modified Peptides
Abstract : The beauty of the wide functionality of proteins and peptides in Nature is determined by their ability to adopt three-dimensional structures. This thesis describes artificial molecules developed to mimic secondary structures similar to those found crucial for biological activities. READ MORE

8. Touching the Essence of Life : Haptic Virtual Proteins for Learning
Abstract : This dissertation presents research in the development and use of a multi-modal visual and haptic virtual model in higher education. The model, named Chemical Force Feedback (CFF), represents molecular recognition through the example of protein-ligand docking, and enables students to simultaneously see and feel representations of the protein and ligand molecules and their force interactions. 9. Readout Strategies for Biomolecular Analyses
Abstract : This thesis describes three readout formats for molecular analyses. A common feature in all works is probing techniques that upon specific target recognition ideally results in equimolar amounts of DNA circles. These are then specifically amplified and detected using any of the techniques presented herein. READ MORE

10. Sample Handling Techniques in Biological and Environmental Applications Emphasizing Biomolecular Recognition and MALDI-TOF MS
Abstract : The use of restricted access media and other stationary phases for clean-up and trace enrichment of environmental samples coupled on-line to liquid chromatography using diode array detection as well as thermospray MS is described. This on-line configuration was compared with commercially available ELISAs for the determination of triazines in complex matrices, showing superior precision and accuracy with the chromatographic method.
