  1. 1. Macromolecular Engineering by Surface-Initiated ATRP: : New Nanomaterials for Bioapplications

    Author : Lingdong Jiang; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : Nanohybrid; Polymer brush; ATRP; Bioseparation; Bioconjugate;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to investigate the synthesis of well-defined polymer nanohybrid materials bearing desirable functionality via surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) for potential bioapplications.SI-ATRP is an excellent controlled radical polymerization (CRP) method for the synthesis of polymer nanohybrid by growing polymer brushes (chains) from an interface, which allows precise control over polymer composition, topology, and functionality. 2. 2. Hydrophobic Fusion Tags: Implications For Bioseparation and Cellular Expression

    Author : Anna Collén; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein production; secretion; aqueous two-phase systems; Trichoderma reesei; endoglucanase; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Abstract : The studies in this thesis have shown that the partitioning of endoglucanase I (EGI, Cel7B) from T. reesei could be significantly improved by relatively minor genetic engineering. By adding short peptides composed of tryptophan and proline residues to EGI, extreme partitioning could be obtained. READ MORE

  3. 3. Bacteriophages and cryogels: A new efficient tool in bioseparation

    Author : Wim Noppe; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biopanning; Cryogel; Phage Display Technology; Chromato-panning;

    Abstract : Abstract Due to developments in the last decades in the field of protein production, new technologies for bio-separation have evolved. Especially in the field of affinity chromatography, the search for new ligands is of great interest. Besides the antibodies used as affinity ligands, synthetic ligands were introduced. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies of magnetic multi-core nanoparticles for biomedical applications

    Author : Vincent Schaller; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metropolis algorithm; magnetic bioseparation; Monte Carlo method; Brownian dynamics; magnetic immunoassays; Magnetic multi-core nanoparticles; digital microfluidics; electrowetting-on-dielectric EWOD ;

    Abstract : In recent years, there has been growing interest in using magnetic multi-core nanoparticles in biomedical applications, and particularly in bioseparation and biosensing. In this thesis, two computer simulation techniques have been implemented to study the magnetic response of these particles, and a microfluidic platform has been fabricated to manipulate bio-functionalized magnetic particles in suspension for immunoassays. 5. 5. Hydrophobic Interactions in Bioseparation - Applications of Modified Green Fluorescent Protein

    Author : Kristian Becker; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : Hydrophobic interaction chromatography; capillary electrochromatography; E. coli; isolation tags; haemoglobin; green fluorescent protein; retention prediction; genetic engineering; accessible surface area;

    Abstract : This thesis describes interactions that are salt-promoted and mainly based on the hydrophobicity of proteins. A series of variants of the green fluorescent protein (GFP) was first constructed by site-directed mutagenesis. Several tags with various properties were then genetically fused to the N-terminus of GFP. READ MORE
