6. Development of 18F- and 68Ga-Labelled Tracers : Design Perspectives and the Search for Faster Synthesis
Abstract : This thesis deals with the design of 18F- and 68Ga-labelled positron emission tomography (PET) tracers and the development of technologies that enable faster and simpler preparation with high specific radioactivity. Techniques like microwave heating and reducing the concentrations of the precursor were investigated with this perspective. READ MORE

8. Affinity-, Partition- and Permeability Properties of the Human Red Blood Cell Membrane and Biomembrane Models, with Emphasis on the GLUT1 Glucose Transporter
Abstract : The human glucose transporter GLUT1 is abundant in red blood cells, the blood-brain barrier and epithelial cells, where it mediates the transport of the energy metabolite, glucose. In the present work some properties of GLUT1, including affinity binding of both substrates and inhibitors, transport rates as well as permeabilities of aromatic amino acids and drug-membrane interactions were analyzed by chromatographic methods. 9. Enzymatic mechanisms in biotin synthesis : vitamin B6 catalysis and phosphoryl transfer
Abstract : With the large number of pathogenic bacteria that have developed antibiotic resistance it is increasingly important to find new targets for antibiotics. Our interest in the biotin biosynthesis pathway originates from this drug design perspective. All organisms require biotin, but it is only synthesised in bacteria, in plants and in some fungi. 10. Synthetic Paper for Point-of-Care Diagnostics : Capillary control, surface modifications, and their applications
Abstract : Capillary-based platforms for diagnostics are popular for the point-of-care diagnostics market because of their low cost, easy fabrication, and easy operation. Lateral flow tests are an excellent example of capillary-based platforms for point-of-care diagnostics. READ MORE
