  1. 1. Synthesis and Evaluation of Photoactive Pyridine Complexes for Electron Transfer Studies and Photoelectrochemical Applications

    Author : Judit Modin; Helena Grennberg; Leif Hammarström; Jean-François Nierengarten; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic chemistry; Fullerene; solar cell; bipyridines; Ruthenium; organic synthesis; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the preparation of new photoactive substances containing mono- and bipyridines coordinated to ruthenium is presented together with initial evaluations of their photoelectrochemical and photophysical properties. Complexes of the type Ru(bpy)2(4-X-py)2 (X = SH, COOH) were prepared and used in Grätzel-type solar cells based on ZnO. READ MORE

  2. 2. Ruthenium(II) Polypyridyl Complexes : Applications in Artificial Photosynthesis

    Author : Olof Johansson; Licheng Sun; Björn Åkermark; Michael D Ward; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organisk kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Molecular mimics of PS II, which consist of a photosensitizer linked to electron acceptors/donors, are attractive candidates for the conversion of solar energy into chemical energy. Several different classes of sensitizers have been studied and among these, ruthenium(II) polypyridyl complexes continue to attract major attention. READ MORE

  3. 3. Chiral Pyridine-Containing Ligands for Asymmetric Catalysis. Synthesis and Applications

    Author : Fredrik Rahm; KTH; []
    Keywords : asymmetric catalysis; chiral ligand; chiral pool; oxazoline; crown ether; ditopic receptor; bipyridine; pyridyl alcohol; modular approach; P; N-ligand; diethylzinc; allylic alkylation;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the design and syntheses of chiral,enantiopure pyridinecontaining ligands and their applicationsin asymmetric catalyis.Chiral pyridyl pyrrolidine ligands and pyridyl oxazolineligands were synthesized and employed in thepalladium-catalysed allylic alkylation of 1,3-diphenyl-2-propenyl acetate with dimethyl malonate.
