  1. 11. On evaluation of organ damage in perinatal asphyxia : an experimental and clinical study

    Author : Mathias Karlsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Perinatal asphyxia; hypoxia-ischemia; hypothermia; pig; lactate dehydrogenase; aminotransferases;

    Abstract : Leakage of intracellular enzymes such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) signalling multi organ dysfunction (MOD) is seen together with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) after perinatal asphyxia. Hypothermia (HT) can attenuate HIE following perinatal asphyxia and hypoxia-ischemia (HI) but the neuroprotective efficacy falls dramatically the longer the delay in initiating HT. READ MORE

  2. 12. Fetal ECG waveform analysis for intrapartum monitoring

    Author : Isis Amer-Wåhlin; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reproduction; Obstetrics; gynaecology; andrology; cerebral metabolism; microdialysis; implementation; fetal asphyxia; intrpartum monitoring; Fetal ECG; Cardiotocography; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Abstract : Waveform analysis of the fetal electrocardiogram has been studied since the early seventies from both physiological, signal processing and clinical aspects. It has been found to contain more useful information than the mere detection of RR-intervals (fetal heart rate), e.g. READ MORE

  3. 13. Developmental and stress induced changes in peptide and catecholamine content of the paraaortic paraganglia

    Author : Lars-Magnus Wikström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : paraganglia; adrenal gland; enkephalin; galanin; NPY; catecholamines; development; asphyxia; hypoglycemia; reserpine;

    Abstract : The paraaortic body (PAB) is the largest extra-adrenal paraganglion and during the perinatal period it contains a substantial amount of catecholamines (CAs). The PAB also contain peptides, whose function in the PAB is not clear. READ MORE

  4. 14. Maternal diabetes during pregnancy – obstetrical considerations and long term effects

    Author : Andrea Stuart; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Maternal diabetes mellitus (DM) during pregnancy has detrimental health impacts on both the mother and fetus, and include increased risks of cardiac malformations, cesarean section (CS), and asphyxia. The aim of the thesis was to investigate short and long term cardiac effects after fetal exposure to DM, investigate the ability of a 5 minute Apgar score as a marker for obstetrical care, investigate the association between mode of delivery in diabetic pregnancies and a low 5 minute Apgar score, and to investigate the association between offspring birth weight and maternal risk of future DM. 5. 15. Labour dystocia : risk factors and consequences for mother and infant

    Author : Anna Sandström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Labour dystocia (prolonged labour) occurs in the active first stage or in the second stage of labour. Dystocia affects approximately 21-37% of nulliparous, and 2-10% of parous women. READ MORE
