  1. 1. Characterization of Genetic Abnormalities at Disease Progression of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia

    Author : Aikaterini Barbouti; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; fluorescent in situ hybridization; low-copy repeats; isochromosome 17q; MSI2 HOXA9; ETV6 ABL1; BCR ABL1; chronic myeloid leukemia; blast crisis; molecular genetics; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Abstract : Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a myeloproliferative disorder associated with the translocation t(9;22)(q34;q11) and progresses from a relatively indolent chronic phase (CP) to an accelerated phase (AP) and finally to the more aggressive blast crisis (BC). The general aim of this thesis was to identify and characterize genetic abnormalities occurring at disease progression of CML using molecular cytogenetic, molecular genetic, and bioinformatic analyses. 2. 2. Clinical and Immunological Studies in Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia

    Author : Stina Söderlund; Ulla Olsson-Strömberg; Angelica Loskog; Satu Mustjoki; Dragana Milojkovic; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chronic myeloid leukaemia; accelerated phase; blast crisis; tyrosine kinase inhibitor; immunology; myeloid-derived suppressor cells; cytokines; proteomics; TKI discontinuation; population-based;

    Abstract : Chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) is characterised by the constitutively active tyrosine kinase BCR-ABL. Standard treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) in the chronic phase (CP) of CML conveys excellent long-term prognosis but is associated with side effects and costs. READ MORE

  3. 3. Clinical and Experimental Studies in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia : Studies of Treatment Outcome, In Vitro Cellular Drug Resistance and Gene Expression

    Author : Ulla Olsson-Strömberg; Bengt Simonsson; Elin Lindhagen; Gisela Barbany; Johan Richter; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medicine; chronic myeloid leukemia; adult; stem cell transplantation; mobilization of Ph-negative stem cells; in vitro assay; imatinib; gene expression; Medicin;

    Abstract : The aims of the studies described in the thesis were to investigate different treatment strategies in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients. Furthermore, activity of imatinib was investigated by in vitro cytotoxicity assay, and the gene expression pattern in interferon treated patients. READ MORE

  4. 4. Stem and progenitor cell involvement in acute lymphoblastic leukemia

    Author : Anders Castor; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cancer; Haematology; Cytology; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; ETV6-RUNX1; BCR-ABL1; stem cells; Acute lymphoblastic leukemia; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : Leukemic stem cells (LSCs) share the capacity of self renewal and extensive proliferation with normal hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), and are therefore obvious targets for therapy. As such, they need to be identified and characterized in order to elucidate what drives them, and what separates them from their normal counterparts. READ MORE

  5. 5. Leukotriene C4 synthesis and export in human platelets and leukocytes : LTC4 synthase expression in normal and leukemic myeloid cells

    Author : Mikael Sjölinder; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Leukotriene (LT)C4 synthase catalyses conjugation of the unstable epoxide LTA4 with reduced glutathione and is the rate-limiting enzyme in the formation of cysteinyl leukotrienes, powerful mediators of asthma and inflammation. The presence of LTC4 synthase in platelets was demonstrated by purification and characterization of bovine platelet LTC4 synthase. READ MORE
