1. The morphology of polyfluorene : fullerene blend films for photovoltaic applications
Abstract : Polymer photovoltaic systems whose photoactive layer is a blend of a semiconducting polymer with a fullerene derivative in a bulk heterojunction configuration are amongst the most successful organic photovoltaic devices nowadays. The three-dimensional organization in these layers (the morphology) plays a crucial role in the performance of the devices. READ MORE

2. Powder mechanics and dispersion properties of adhesive mixtures for dry powder inhalers : Conceptualized as a blend state model
Abstract : Inhaled medicines is a therapy that dates back several thousands of years. Nowadays, using various types of inhaler devices to deliver active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) to treat respiratory diseases has become common practice. READ MORE

3. Meso-Mechanical Modeling and Analysis of Adhesive Layers
Abstract : This thesis is concerned with the modeling, simulation and analysis of adhesive layers. By use of an in situ scanning electron microscopy study it is found that the adhesive studied in the present thesis has a very complex structure with two different compounds, a mineral and an epoxy/thermoplastic blend. 4. Meso-Mechanical Modeling of Thin Adhesive Layers
Abstract : A thin adhesive layer is analyzed using a representative volume element (RVE). The RVE is comprised by, both continuum and interfacial finite elements. The interface elements allow for crack initiation and crack propagation. To obtain realistic results from the RVE simulation, an in situ scanning electron microscopy (SEM) study is performed. 5. Optical modelling of conjugated polymers : from materials to devices
Abstract : Measurements and modelling of theoretical properties of polymer-based photovoltaic devices, PPVDs, are the subjects of this thesis. Modelling refers both to modelling of materials, based on extraction of the dielectric function, and to modelling of devices by computer simulation of the optical electrical field inside PPVDs.
