1. Blood protein coated model biomaterials : preparation, and cell and tissue response
Abstract : Solid biomaterials are widely used in bone and in soft tissue applications. Problems may then arise due to a prolonged inflammation in the proximity of the implant, resulting in the formation of a fibrous capsule and a low vascularisation near the interface. READ MORE

2. Lead in blood. ICP-MS studies of lead in plasma, blood and erythrocyte proteins
Abstract : An inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) method for the determination of lead in blood plasma has been developed. The detection limit was below 0.1 microgram/liter, and the precision 5%. There was no significant difference between levels in plasma and serum. READ MORE

3. Studies of Innate and Adaptive Immunity in Islet Transplantation
Abstract : Clinical islet transplantation is today an established alternative treatment for a selected group of type 1 diabetes patients. The predominant technique for transplantation is infusion of islets in the liver via the portal vein. READ MORE

4. The Eloquent Blood : The Goddess Babalon and the Construction of Femininities in Western Esotericism
Abstract : The study analyses the changing construction of femininities and feminine sexuality in interpretations of the goddess Babalon, a central deity in Aleister Crowley’s (1875–1947) esoteric religion Thelema. Femininity has occupied a problematic position in feminist theory, frequently associated with lack, artifice, and restriction. READ MORE

5. Blood-Brain Barrier Transport : Investigation of Active Efflux using Positron Emission Tomography and Modelling Studies
Abstract : This thesis examines the transport of exogenous molecules across the blood-brain barrier (BBB), focusing on active efflux, using positron emission tomography (PET), computer simulation and modelling. P-glycoprotein (P-gp) inhibition was studied using [11C]verapamil and [11C]hydroxyurea was investigated as a new marker for active efflux transport. READ MORE
