  1. 1. The plantaris tendon in relation to the Achilles tendon in midportion Achilles tendinopathy : studies on morphology, innervation and signalling substances

    Author : Christoph Spang; Sture Forsgren; Håkan Alfredson; Patrik Danielson; Karim Khan; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Plantaris tendon; Achilles tendon; Achilles tendinopathy; innervation; morphology;

    Abstract : Midportion Achilles tendinopathy (tendinosis) is a troublesome painful condition, often characterised by pain, local swelling, tenderness and functional disability. Despite extensive research, the pathogenesis is poorly understood and treatment remains challenging. Features related to the peritendinous connective tissue can be of importance. READ MORE

  2. 2. Testicular blood flow : methodological and functional studies in the rat

    Author : Jan-Erik Damber; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Different methods of measuring testicular blood flow in the rat were compared in an attempt to find an accurate method for measuring physiological testicular blood flow. It was found that both the Xenon- 133 clearance technique and the radioactive microsphere technique probably reflect true physiological blood flow in the testis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Assessment of eosinophil degranulation in allergic diseases and experimental models

    Author : Monika Malm-Erjefält; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []

    Abstract : In allergic disorders, the eosinophilic granulocytes migrate to affected tissues and release granule proteins with cytotoxic, immunoregulatory, and remodeling-promoting properties. Given that degranulation is reflected by a loss in eosinophil granule density of living cells, or by cell membrane rupture and release of intact granules, these morphological changes may represent a biomarker of the allergic disease. 4. 4. Biomedical Applications of Bacterial Cellulose Fermentation, Morphology and Surface Properties

    Author : Aase Katarina Bodin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biocompatibility; xyloglucan epitopes; mechanical properties; cell adhesion; tubular fermentation; morphology; Bacterial cellulose; surface properties; meniscus mold; crystal formation.; ozonation; adsorption;

    Abstract : Because average life expectancy has increased and peoples lifestyles have changed, degenerative diseases have become a critical issue. The demand for biomedical materials to replace or improve major body systems (skeletal, circulatory and nervous, etc.) will increase as people strive to maintain good quality of life. READ MORE

  5. 5. Muscle Morphology and the Insulin Resistance Syndrome : A Population-Based Study of 70 Year-Old-Men in Uppsala

    Author : Anu Hedman; Stevo Julius; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Muscle morphology; fiber distribution; capillary density; insulin resistance syndrome; physical activity; hypertension; insulin-mediated blood flow; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Abstract : Skeletal muscle accounts for the largest part of insulin-mediated glucose uptake. Insulin resistance (IR) is the main component of insulin resistance syndrome (IRS) and is an essential cause of a number of cardiovascular risk factors. READ MORE
