  1. 6. Turbulent Flow in Constricted Blood Vessels : Quantification of Wall Shear Stress Using Large Eddy Simulation

    Author : Roland Gårdhagen; Matts Karlsson; Toste Länne; Leif Rune Hellevik; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The genesis of atherosclerosis has previously been shown to be affected by the frictional load from the blood on the vessel wall, called the wall shear stress (WSS). Assessment of WSS can therefore provide important information for diagnoses, intervention planning, and follow‐up. READ MORE

  3. 8. Surface modification of cellulose materials : from wood pulps to artificial blood vessels

    Author : Lage Ahrenstedt; Harry Brumer; Lars Wågberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the improvement of two radically different cellulose materials, paper and artificial blood vessels, constructed from two diverse cellulose sources, wood pulp and Acetobacter xylinum. The improvement of both materials was possible due to the natural affinity of the hemicellulose xyloglucan for cellulose. READ MORE

  4. 9. Artificial blood vessels - Studies on endothelial cell and blood interactions with bacterial cellulose

    Author : Helen Fink; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : bacterial cellulose; endothelial cells; thrombogenicity; xyloglucan; contact activation; imaging of coagulation; vascular grafts; RGD; cell adhesion; bioreactor; xyloglucan;

    Abstract : Cardiovascular diseases are still the number one cause of death or invalidity in the western world today. Atherosclerotic plaques and restenosis can result in severe occlusions of peripheral and coronary arteries. Treatment depends on the severity of the disease and includes drug therapy and bypass surgery. READ MORE

  5. 10. Negative Pressure Wound Therapy - Mechanisms of Action and Protecting Exposed Blood Vessels in the Wound Bed

    Author : Erik Anesäter; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Negative pressure wound therapy; wounds; complications; experimental surgery; blood flow;

    Abstract : NPWT has recently been associated with severe complications and bleeding when used in wounds with exposed blood vessels. The aims of this work were to investigate the mechanisms of action of NPWT and to explore the possibility of using thin plastic discs to protect exposed blood vessels in the wound bed during NPWT.
