  1. 1. Body movement as material : Designing temporal expressions

    Author : Linnea Bågander; Clemens Thornquist; Lise Amy Hansen; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Design; body; body as material; fashion design; performing arts; temporal form; practice-led research; design methods; motion design; Textiles and Fashion Design ; Textil och mode konstnärlig ;

    Abstract : Movement and temporal qualities have a significant effect on design expressions. However, in the design of dress these are often overlooked, and the static form of a positioned body is considered to be the main driver of design. This work explores the expressions of the body in motion, engaged in the interaction constituted by wearing. READ MORE

  2. 2. Body Games : Designing for movement-based play in co-located social settings

    Author : Elena Márquez Segura; Barry Brown; Annika Waern; Florian Mueller; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Man-Machine-Interaction MMI ; människa-maskin-interaktion MMI ;

    Abstract : The challenge of designing for games and playful activities has moved past the technical, to focus on how to design for a design space where the threads of the digital technologies and the physical world interweave and entangle creating a hybrid fabric where play can take place. But how can we bridge between the digital and physical world where play is enacted and unravel the tangle of this hybrid fabric? How can we braid the digital and digital threads to spur playful experiences? In this thesis, I focus on a concrete fabric of hybrid play: co–located physical and social play, and propose a framework for design in this scenario: the PLAY BOOST framework. READ MORE

  3. 3. The structure of knowing : Existential trust as an epistemological category

    Author : Hildur Kalman; Martin Edman; Ulla M. Holm; Ingvar Johansson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; lived body; knowing; existential trust; tacit knowing; Pkolanyi; subsidiary awareness; experience; gender; epistemology; from-to structure; agency;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the structure of knowing, and it argues that existential trust is an epistemological category.The aim of the dissertation is to develop a view according to which all human activity is seen as an activity of a lived body, and in which the understanding of the structure of such activity is regarded as central for the solution even of epistemological problems. 5. 5. Order and interfaces in epitaxial heterostructures : Structure and magnetism

    Author : Anna L. Ravensburg; Vassilios Kapaklis; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Gunnar K. Pálsson; Martina Müller; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The work in this dissertation is devoted to investigating order and interfaces in epitaxial heterostructures. To achieve that the software tool box GenL was developed for simulating and fitting x-ray diffraction patterns from epitaxial thin films, which is used to access structural information on the length scales of interfaces and atomic bonds.
