  1. 1. Bone mass in young adults - determinants and fracture prediction

    Author : Henrik Düppe; Ortopedi - klinisk och molekylär osteoporosforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Skelett; rheumatology locomotion; muscle system; Skeleton; Fracture prediction.; Bone mass; Osteoporosis; Bone densitometry; muskelsystem; reumatologi;

    Abstract : Bone mass in adolescents and young adults was studied with regard to its age-related change and its determinants. Methodological aspects of bone mass measurements and their ability to predict future fractures were investigated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Bone density, bone geometry and bone development in young men - the importance of pubertal timing and fracture history

    Author : Anna Darelid; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; peak bone mass; bone mineral density; bone development; fracture; young adulthood; men;

    Abstract : Background and objective: Peak bone mass, the maximal bone mass attained in young adulthood, is an important factor of the lifetime risk of developing osteoporosis. The aim of this thesis was to study the development of bone mineral density (BMD) and bone geometry around the time of peak bone mass in men, and also to investigate the association between pubertal timing, fracture history, bone turnover markers and BMD and bone geometry in young men. 3. 3. Bone mass in the young athlete

    Author : Ulrika Pettersson; Ronny Lorentzon; Olle Svensson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bone mass; bone area; physical activity; muscle strength; body constitution; amenorrhea; puberty; adolescents; young aduts;

    Abstract : Bone mass and bone size accumulate during childhood and adolescence and peak in the twenties. The obtained peak bone mass has been suggested to be a major determinant of bone mass even in the very elderly. READ MORE

  4. 4. On bone quality and implant stability measurements

    Author : Bertil Friberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; early failures; titanium implants; jaw bone quality; jaw bone volume; cutting torque; implant stability; resonance frequency; one-stage surgery;

    Abstract : In conjuction with placement of oral implants, the jaw bone quality assessment is mainly based on quantitative radiographic measures and the subjective opinion of the performing surgeon. While the primary implant stability is discussed in terms of the pre-set motor torque and the subjective hand-felt perception during final tightening of implants, the secondary stability is defined as the absence of implant mobility. 5. 5. Sources of Arachidonic Acid in Platelets, Bone, Marrow and Gastrointestinal Tract

    Author : Li Zhou; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Phospholipids; Megakaryocyte; Lysophosphatidylcholine; Lipoproteins; Linoleic acid; Intralipid; Interconversion; Gastrointestinal tract; Plasma free fatty acids; Fasting; Dietary fatty acids; Desaturase; Cholesterol; Chylomicron remnant; Chylomicron; Arachidonic acid; Bone marrow; Platelets; Protein S; Prothrombin; Triglycerides.; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Abstract : This study investigates pathways by which the eicosanoid precursor pools in the platelets, bone marrow and the gastrointestinal (GI) mucosa are acquired and regulated, and in this context some aspects on the interaction between triglyceride (TG)-rich lipoproteins and platelets. 1.
