  1. 1. BMP implants in bone formation. Studies in rabbits and rats

    Author : Charlotte Jeppsson; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ortopedi; traumatologi; graft resorption.; Kirurgi; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; bone formation; bone graft; hydroxyapatite; collagen; bisphosphonate; rat; rabbit; titanium chamber; BMP; TGF-ß;

    Abstract : Bone morphogenic proteins, BMPs, are a group endogenous proteins that are highly conserved through evolution. The amino acid sequences of about 15 different BMPs are now known and recombinant human BMPs are commercially available. Implantation of an individual BMP protein is sufficient to induce bone formation even at a subcutaneous site. READ MORE

  2. 2. Survival of onlay bone grafts. A study in the adult rat

    Author : Monica Gordh; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rats; polytetrafluoroethylene; artificial; membrane; immunohistochemistry; cortical perforations; bone morphogenetic protein; bone marrow; bone; bone grafts; Odontologi; stomatology; Odontology; skull; tibia;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to study onlay bone grafting in the adult rat to improve graft incorporation and perservation of graft size. In 167 adult isogeneic lewis rats, the size maintenance and bone formation at the graft-host interface of uni- and bicortical onlays positioned in various environments and treatments were investigated. 3. 3. On tissue reactions to and resorption of bone substitutes

    Author : Arne Mordenfeld; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bone graft; bone substitutes; sinus floor augmentation; lateral ridge augmentation;

    Abstract : Background: The increasing need for bone grafting procedures inimplant dentistry and the introduction of a variety of bone substitutesrequire a deeper understanding of the biological response and shortandlong-term behaviour of these materials to choose the adequategraft and surgical procedure for the intended clinical application.Aims: The overall aim was to clinically and histologically studythe short- and long-term tissue reactions to and resorption of bonesubstitutes after bone augmentation. 4. 4. Pharmacological manipulation of fracture healing and bone remodeling

    Author : Anna Kajsa Harding; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pin-fixation; fracture healing; bone remodeling; bone graft; Bisphosphonate; BMP;

    Abstract : Drug treatment has been and will continue to be a successful method in modern medicine that can change the course of a disease. However, it is surprisingly seldom used in the more technically oriented orthopedic surgery. READ MORE

  5. 5. Biological interface of bone graft substitute materials : experimental studies on interactions between biomaterials and bone cells

    Author : Zivko Mladenovic; Maria Ransjö; Joost D de Brujin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Bone graft substitute materials are becoming more common as alternative therapy strategies when bone defects in patients need to be treated. The interaction between bone cells and biomaterials occur at the surface of the materials. A great deal is known about the importance of surface topography and physic-chemical properties of biomaterials. READ MORE
