6. An injectable biphasic bone substitute in sinus augmentation
Abstract : This thesis concerns a new synthetic, injectable bone substitute, Cerament™, primarily developed for treatment of vertebral fractures. The purpose of the thesis was to investigate the properties of the newbone substitute, that is, whether it can contribute to the generation of new bone formation needed for placement of future dental implants. 7. Craniofacial bone reconstruction with bone morphogenetic protein-2
Abstract : Bone defects in the craniofacial area are a clinical challenge and can be the result of trauma, tumour resection or congenital malformations. The golden standard for reconstruction is autologous bone grafts, but bone may not always be readily available and donor-site morbidity might follow. READ MORE

8. On tissue reactions to and resorption of bone substitutes
Abstract : Background: The increasing need for bone grafting procedures inimplant dentistry and the introduction of a variety of bone substitutesrequire a deeper understanding of the biological response and shortandlong-term behaviour of these materials to choose the adequategraft and surgical procedure for the intended clinical application.Aims: The overall aim was to clinically and histologically studythe short- and long-term tissue reactions to and resorption of bonesubstitutes after bone augmentation. 9. On healing of titanium implants in iliac crest bone grafts
Abstract : Bone grafts and titanium implants are commonly used for surgical/prosthetic rehabilitation of the atrophic edentulous maxilla. The factors which influence bone graft healing and implant integration are not sufficiently understood. READ MORE

10. Healing of endosseous implants with different surface characteristics in grafted and non-grafted bone : clinical and experimental studies
Abstract : Aims: This study uses radiological and clinical evaluations of the healing of endosseous titanium implants presented with different surface characteristics in the clinical situation (paper I-III) and experimentally to describe the early bone healing in maxillary sinus membrane elevation with and without the use of grafting material (paper IV).Material and methods: In paper I, 136 patients were treated with 394 dental implants – 199 were oxidized titanium implants (Nobel Biocare TiUnite) and 195 were turned titanium surface implants (Nobel Biocare Mark III).
