  1. 1. Mechanisms behind growth of castration-resistant prostate cancer bone metastases

    Author : Emma Jernberg; Pernilla Wikström; Jack Schalken; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; castration-resistance; bone metastases; androgen receptor; intratumoral steroidogenesis; androgen receptor splice variants; androgen receptor amplification; patologi; Pathology;

    Abstract : Background: The first-line treatment for patients with advanced prostate cancer (PC) is androgen deprivation therapy. This therapy is initially effective, but after some time tumors relapse, predominantly within the bone, and are then termed castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). READ MORE

  2. 2. MicroRNA expression profiles in prostate cancer bone metastases : functional effects of microRNA-23c, -375, and -4328

    Author : Helena Järemo; Pernilla Wikström; Maria Brattsand; Anders Bergh; Elin Thysell; Guido Jenster; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer bone metastases; microRNA; metastatic subtypes; extracellular vesicles; Pathology; patologi;

    Abstract : Non-coding microRNAs (miRNAs) function as post-transcriptional regulators of gene expression by interacting with messenger RNA. Dysregulation of miRNAs has many possible consequences, including tumor-suppressive or -promoting ones, and restoring or preventing the effects of miRNA alteration has therapeutic potential. 3. 3. Metastatic spinal cord compression in prostate cancer : clinical and morphological studies

    Author : Sead Crnalic; Richard Löfvenberg; Anders Widmark; Anders Bergh; Sten Nilsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; prostate cancer; bone metastasis; spinal cord compression; surgical treatment; survival prognosis; early diagnosis; androgen receptor; Orthopaedics; ortopedi; Pathology; patologi; Oncology; onkologi;

    Abstract : Background: Bone metastases occur in most patients with advanced hormone-refractory prostate cancer causing pain, pathologic fractures, and spinal cord compression. Few studies specifically address surgical treatment of metastatic spinal cord compression (MSCC) in prostate cancer. READ MORE

  4. 4. Healing of endosseous implants with different surface characteristics in grafted and non-grafted bone : clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Måns Jungner; Stefan Lundgren; Malou Hultcrantz; Carina Lundqvist; Peter Nilsson; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : Aims: This study uses radiological and clinical evaluations of the healing of endosseous titanium implants presented with different surface characteristics in the clinical situation (paper I-III) and experimentally to describe the early bone healing in maxillary sinus membrane elevation with and without the use of grafting material (paper IV).Material and methods: In paper I, 136 patients were treated with 394 dental implants – 199 were oxidized titanium implants (Nobel Biocare TiUnite) and 195 were turned titanium surface implants (Nobel Biocare Mark III). 5. 5. The complexity of prognostication in musculoskeletal sarcomas. An analysis of four illustrative entities

    Author : Peter Bergh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sarcoma; surgery; pathology; extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma; synovial sarcoma; chordoma; chondrosarcoma;

    Abstract : Although malignant musculoskeletal tumors are rare, they encompass numerous entities with a wide morphological, clinical and prognostic spectrum. Sarcoma surgery is particularly demanding. Treatment must take into account the lesionís inherent biologic behavior, anatomic location and individual patient factors. READ MORE
