  1. 21. Congenital adrenal hyperplasia in adults

    Author : Henrik Falhammar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is an autosomal recessive disorder affecting adrenal steroid synthesis. More than 95% of CAH cases are caused by reduced 21-hydroxylase function leading to variable extent of cortisol and aldosterone deficiency in addition to androgen excess. The foundation of CAH treatment is the use of glucocorticoids. READ MORE

  2. 22. Dosimetry of Radionuclide Therapy with 177Lu-octreotate

    Author : Mattias Sandström; Hans Lundqvist; Mark Lubberink; Sven-Erik Strand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 177Lu-octreotate; Absorbed dose; Neuroendocrine tumour; Medicinsk radiofysik; Medical Radiophysics;

    Abstract : In radionuclide therapy it is still common to administer standard activities or to scale administered activity with blunt parameters such as body weight or surface area. This is not ideal because, due to considerable variation in kinetics, large safety margins have to be applied to avoid radiation damage to healthy organs, which causes under-treatment of many patients. 3. 23. Radiotherapy in advanced head and neck cancer

    Author : Anna Embring; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Head and neck cancer (HNC) is a group of malignant tumours located in the mucosa of the upper aero-digestive tract. The location of the tumour, close to several critical organs, can often result in great suffering for the patient both due to the tumour itself but also the treatment can be associated with side effects impairing quality of life. 4. 24. Preoperative radiotherapy in rectal cancer : aspects of different regimens

    Author : David Pettersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In Sweden approximately 2000 patients are annually diagnosed with a rectal cancer. The main treatment of the cancer is surgery. Radiotherapy (RT) is used as an adjuvant treatment in >60% of these patients to improve local control and in some patients to downsize a primary non resectable tumour to facilitate surgery. 5. 25. Transforming growth factor-ß. Signal regulation in health and disease

    Author : Urban Molander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : TGF-b; BMP; Smad; signal transduction; LDL; skin tumour; mesangial;

    Abstract : TGF-b superfamily members have been shown to play a pivotal role in multicellular organisms. Knowledge about signal transduction pathways is important in order to understand and cure diseases like cancer where TGF-b´s growth inhibitory signal often are disenabled via mutated or absent signalling components.
