  1. 1. Neuromusculoskeletal interfacing of lower limb prostheses

    Author : Alexander Thesleff; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; OPRA; bone-anchored attachment; Enhanced Osseointegrated Prostheses for the Rehabilitation of Amputees e-OPRA .; Osseointegration; direct skeletal attachment; neuromusculoskeletal interface; OPRA; Osseointegrated Prostheses for the Rehabilitation of Amputees OPRA ; Enhanced Osseointegrated Prostheses for the Rehabilitation of Amputees e-OPRA .;

    Abstract : The method of bone-anchored attachment of limb prostheses via a percutaneous skeletal extension was developed to circumvent commonly reported problems associated with the conventional method of socket attachment. In addition to the direct structural connection, the percutaneous implant may serve as a conduit for bidirectional communication between muscles and nerves within the residual limb and the prosthesis.     Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; epimysial electrodes; robotic prostheses; sensory feedback.; real-time and simultaneous prosthetic control; neurostimulation; pattern recognition; advanced prosthetic control; neural interfaces; artificial limbs; cuff electrodes; bone-anchored prostheses; osseointegration;

    Abstract : The use of implantable electrodes has been long thought as the solution for a more natural control of artificial limbs, as these offer access to long-term stable and physiologically appropriate sources of control, as well as the possibility to elicit appropriate sensory feedback via neurostimulation. Although these ideas have been explored since the 1960’s, the lack of a long-term stable human-machine interface has prevented the utilization of even the simplest implanted electrodes in clinically viable limb prostheses. 3. 3. Infections associated with percutaneous osseointegrated titanium implants for limb prostheses

    Author : Jonatan Tillander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; osteomyelitis; osseointegration; percutaneous implant; titanium; amputation; long-term risk; clinical presentation; biofilm;

    Abstract : Femoral amputation is a devastating event. Percutaneous, bone anchored prosthetic systems reduce problems associated with socket suspended prostheses, but the design is inherently vulnerable to infection. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the role of surface properties for implant fixation : From finite element modeling to in vivo studies

    Author : Patrik Stenlund; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Implant stability; Removal torque; Surface roughness; Surface chemistry; Finite element analysis; Experimental; In vivo; Osseointegration; Mechanical loading; Bone regeneration; Biomechanics;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to gain a deeper understanding of the factors contributing to the fixation of bone-anchored implants, especially with regard to surface chemistry, surface topography and implant loading. The methodology used in the thesis ranges from systematic bench studies, computer simulations, experimental in vivo studies, to load cell measurements on patients treated with bone-anchored amputation prostheses.
