1. Theoretical modelling of thin film growth in the B-N system
Abstract : In vapour phase deposition, the knowledge and control of homogeneous and heterogeneous reactions in connection to precursor design may lead to the deposition of the desired material; structure or phase. This thesis is a document attempting to increase the knowledge of film growth in the B-N system. READ MORE

2. Controlling Electronic and Geometrical Structure of Honeycomb-Lattice Materials Supported on Metal Substrates : Graphene and Hexagonal Boron Nitride
Abstract : The present thesis is focused on various methods of controlling electronic and geometrical structure of two-dimensional overlayers adsorbed on metal surfaces exemplified by graphene and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) grown on transition metal (TM) substrates. Combining synchrotron-radiation-based spectroscopic and various microscopic techniques with in situ sample preparation, we are able to trace the evolution of overlayer electronic and geometrical properties in overlayer/substrate systems, as well as changes of interfacial interaction in the latter. 3. Theoretical Investigations of Boron Related Materials Using DFT
Abstract : In the history of Chemistry, materials chemists have developed their ideas mainly by doing experiments in laboratories. The underlying motivation for this laboratory work has generally been pure curiosity or the ambition to find a solution to a specific problem. READ MORE

4. Chemical vapour deposition of sp2-hybridised B-C-N materials from organoborons
Abstract : Thin films of sp2-BN are promising materials for graphene and deep-UV optoelectronics. They are typically deposited by thermally activated chemical vapour deposition (CVD) from triethylboron (TEB) and ammonia (NH3) at 1500 °C, albeit in a narrow process window. READ MORE

5. Chemical Vapour Deposition of sp2 Hybridised Boron Nitride
Abstract : The aim of this work was to develop a chemical vapour deposition process and understand the growth of sp2 hybridised Boron Nitride (sp2-BN). Thus, the growth on different substrates together with the variation of growth parameters was investigated in details and is presented in the papers included in this thesis. READ MORE
