  2. 2. Vocational skills formation in communities of practice : Experiences from primary school and the informal economy in Tanzania

    Author : Gunilla Höjlund; Robert Höghielm; Michael Young; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Key words: vocational skills formation; vocationalization; apprenticeship; communities of practice; “legitimate; peripheral participation”; ethnographic approach; primary schooling; informal economy; task; Stadi za Kazi Vocational Skill ; education for self-reliance; boundary objects; artisan; Education; Pedagogik;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis is to explore the relationship between school and working life in Tanzania; what goes on inside school in relation to what goes on outside. The focus is on vocational skills formation by which is understood the process whereby individuals develop skills necessary for everyday life and gainful employment. READ MORE

  3. 3. High Arctic submarine glaciogenic landscapes : their formation and significance

    Author : Francis Fletcher Freire; Richard Gyllencreutz; Martin Jakobsson; Haflidi Haflidason; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; High Arctic; GrIS; marine geophysics; glaciogenic landscapes; ice streams; submarine slides; Marine Geology; maringeologi;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on studies of glacial and slope morphology in the high Arctic of western Greenland shelf and the Molloy Hole seafloor spreading area, based on high-resolution acoustic methods and other geophysical data. The main purpose is to improve our understanding of glacial dynamics and associated processes in the marginal region of a large marine-terminating ice sheet. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modeling of new particle formation and growth in the atmospheric boundary layer

    Author : Emilie Öström; Centrum för miljö- och klimatvetenskap (CEC); []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; New particle formation; Secondary organic aerosols; Process-based modeling; Climate;

    Abstract : Atmospheric aerosols affect climate, but to what degree still remains one of the largest uncertainties in global climate models. To improve the representation of aerosols in future climate models we need a greater understanding of aerosol processes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Boundary layer streaks as a novel laminar flow control method

    Author : Sohrab Sattarzadeh Shirvan; Jens H. M. Fransson; Edward B. White; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; boundary layer stability; laminar to turbulent transition; laminar flow control; drag reduction; Tollmien-Schlichting waves; oblique waves; streaky boundary layers; miniature vortex generators; discrete suction;

    Abstract : A novel laminar flow control based on generation of spanwise mean velocity gradients (SVG) in a flat plate boundary layer is investigated where disturbances of different types are introduced in the wall-bounded shear layer. The experimental investigations are aimed at; (i) generating stable and steady streamwise streaks in the boundary layer which set up spanwise gradients in the mean flow, and (ii) attenuating disturbance energy growth in the streaky boundary layers and hence delaying the onset of turbulence transition.
