  1. 1. Structural Safety Analysis of Bow-Doors

    Author : Ulf Karlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ship design; structure; safety; fatigue.; arm; IACS S8; damage; bow-door; analysis;

    Abstract : Bow-doors are one of the most vulnerable parts on a RoRo-vessel. At the same time, they are necessary for the profitability of todays RoRo-vessels.The minimum design rules for bow-door systems, stated in the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) S8, constitute the basis for the class rules. 2. 2. Moisture-induced Distortion in Norway Spruce Timber - Experiments and Models

    Author : MARIE JOHANSSON; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; spiral grain angle; bow; spring; twist; wood; longitudinal shrinkage; crook; warp; compression wood; lumber;

    Abstract : Timber is a natural material that is environmentally friendly, renewable, light, strong and, in the eyes of most people, beautiful. Timber does, however, have one important drawback when it is used in a modern mechanised building process - its lack of straightness. READ MORE

  3. 3. High-speed jets and related phenomena at Earth's bow shock and magnetosheath

    Author : Savvas Raptis; Tomas Karlsson; Drew Turner; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magnetosheath; solar wind; bow shock; plasma; collisionless shock; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Magnetosheath high-speed jets are transient and localized dynamic pressure enhancements downstream of Earth’s bow shock. Their formation has been associated with several mechanisms, including solar transient events and the dynamical evolution of the bow shock. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dissipation at the Earth's Quasi-Parallel Bow Shock

    Author : Rico Behlke; Mats André; Harald Kucharek; Andris Vaivads; Manfred Scholer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Space and plasma physics; collisionless shocks; wave-particle interactions; nonlinear phenomena; cross-shock potential; Cluster spacecraft; Rymd- och plasmafysik; Space physics; Rymdfysik;

    Abstract : The Earth's bow shock is a boundary where the solar wind becomes decelerated from supersonic to subsonic speed before being deflected around the Earth. This thesis presents measurements by the Cluster spacecraft upstream and at the Earth's quasi-parallel bow shock where the angle between the upstream magnetic field and the bow shock normal is less than 45 degrees. 5. 5. Electron Heating and Acceleration at Earth’s Collisionless Bow Shock

    Author : Martin Lindberg; Andris Vaivads; Philippe Savoini; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electron; heating; Acceleration; MMS; Shock; space; plasma; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Cosmic rays are ultra-relativistic particles traveling near the speed of light permeating the galaxy. Collisionless shock waves with their ubiquity throughout the universe and excellent capability of accelerating charged particles offer an explanation to the origin of cosmic rays. READ MORE
