1. Mechanics and acoustics of violin bowing : Freedom, constraints and control in performance
Abstract : This thesis addresses sound production in bowed-string instruments from two perspectives: the physics of the bowed string, and bow control in performance. Violin performance is characterized by an intimate connection between the player and the instrument, allowing for a continuous control of the sound via the main bowing parameters (bow velocity, bow force and bow-bridge distance), but imposing constraints as well. 2. On the control of virtual violins : Physical modelling and control of bowed string instruments
Abstract : This thesis treats the control of sound synthesis of bowed string instruments based on physical modelling. The work followed two approaches: (a) a systematic exploration of the influence of control parameters (bow force, bow velocity, and bow-bridge distance) on the output of a physical model of the violin, and (b) measurements and analyses of the bowing parameters in real violin playing in order to model and parameterize basic classes of bowing patterns for synthesis control. 3. Structural and elastic properties of InN and InAlN with different surface orientations and doping
Abstract : Group–III nitrides, InN, GaN, AlN, and their alloys, have revolutionized solid state lighting and continue to attract substantial research interest due to their unique properties and importance for optoelectronics and electronics. Among the group–III nitrides, InN has the lowest effective electron mass and the highest electron mobility, which makes it suitable for high–frequency and high power devices. READ MORE

4. GaN, AlGaN, GaNAs and Related Heterostructures Grown by Molecular Beam Epitaxy
Abstract : This work deals with growth and characterization of III-nitrides and related heterostructures as well as GaNAs alloys grown by plasma assisted molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). The III-nitrides belong to the wide bandgap semiconductors due to their large energy bandgap spanning from 1.9 to 6.2 eV. READ MORE
