  1. 1. Longterm performance of polyolefins in different environments including chlorinated water: antioxidant consumption and migration and polymer degradation

    Author : Marie Lundbäck; Ulf Gedde; Thomas Hjertberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical engineering; polyethylene; polybutylene; HDPE; LLDPE; phenolic antioxidants; oxidation induction time OIT ; migration; chlorinated water; pressure testing; lifetime; chemical consumption.; Kemiteknik; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The long-term performance of stabilized polyolefins in different environments was studied with focus on antioxidant consumption and migration. Plaques of linear polyethylene (LPE) and branched polyethylene (BPE) were stabilized with Santonox® R (4,4'-Thiobis(6-tert-butyl-3-methylphenol)), Irganox® 1081 (2,2’-Thiobis(4-methyl-6-tertbutylphenol)), or Lowinox® 22M46 (2,2’-Methylenebis(6-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol)). 2. 2. Beyond mammography : an evaluation of complementary modalities in breast imaging

    Author : Roxanna Hellgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Breast cancer is the main cause of cancer death among women worldwide and the goal of mammography screening is to reduce breast cancer-specific mortality. The reduction of the sensitivity of mammography for detecting cancer among women with dense breasts requires the use of complementary methods for this subset of women. READ MORE

  3. 3. Prostate Diseases and the Metabolic Syndrome

    Author : Mohammad-Ali Haghsheno; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate Cancer; Metabolic Syndrome; Vitamin D; Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus; Osteocalcin;

    Abstract : ABSTRACT The overall aim of this thesis was to explore the association between the components of the metabolic syndrome (MetS), including vitamin D, and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). The focus was on the relationship between diseases of the prostate, mainly benign prostatic enlargement (BPE) and prostate cancer (PC). READ MORE

  4. 4. Blood Pressure Elevation - Impact on Cardiovascular Structure and Endogenous Fibrinolysis

    Author : Wilhelm Ridderstråle; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : hypertension; left ventricular hypertrophy; intima-media thickness; fibrinolysis; endothelium; tissue plasminogen activator; antihypertensive agents; mechanical stress; plasminogen activator inhibitor-1;

    Abstract : Blood pressure elevation is a major risk factor for cardiovascular events and the risk increases in a dose-dependant manner. It is of importance to identify subjects prone to develop hypertension and adverse cardiovascular remodeling in order to start treatment timely. READ MORE

  5. 5. Transurethral resection of the prostate: studies on efficacy, morbidity and costs

    Author : Erik Sagen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Transurethral resection of the prostate; BPH; Urinary retention; Complications; Healthcare costs; LUTS;

    Abstract : Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), based on benign prostatic enlargement (BPE), are increasingly common, in ageing men. A considerable amount of men will ultimately progress with deteriorating symptoms or with the occurrence of complications secondary to obstruction of the bladder outlet, for example, urinary retention (UR).
