  1. 11. An animal model of sport related concussive brain injury

    Author : Hayde Bolouri; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : animal model; football; concussion; brain injury; neuropathology; cognitive function;

    Abstract : A new animal model for concussion of the type seen in professional football was developed, since current animal models did not simulate these conditions. The model is characterized by a high velocity-low mass impact to the head of a freely moving object. Structural damages and functional effects of the model have been investigated. READ MORE

  2. 12. Evaluation of Intracranial Arteriovenous Malformations with Magnetic Resonance Imaging

    Author : Maria Correia de Verdier; Johan Wikström; Elisabeth Ronne-Engström; Ljubisa Borota; Johan Wassélius; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Arteriovenous malformation; brain; proton-radiation therapy; magnetic resonance imaging; phase-contrast MRI; Radiology; Radiologi;

    Abstract : Intracranial arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are characterized by feeding arteries, a tangle of abnormal vessels (nidus) and draining veins. Radiological evaluation methods are used in diagnosing AVMs, treatment planning, post-treatment evaluation and monitoring stability. READ MORE

  3. 13. Interplay between blood-brain barrier disruption and neuroinflammation following severe traumatic brain injury

    Author : Caroline Lindblad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : A severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) holds deleterious consequences for the afflicted, its next-of-kin and society. Still today, prognosis is semi-desolate. One explanation for this might be pathophysiological processes ensuing the primary trauma that are but indirectly targeted for treatment. READ MORE

  4. 14. Studies of experimental brain trauma and ischemia : effects of Epo

    Author : Jonas Blixt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Traumatic brain injury has attained a lot of scientific and clinical focus during a considerable amount of time but is still as of today regarded a highly lethal condition with a high degree of morbidity amongst the surviving. The complexity of the pathophysiological processes that start immediately after the primary injury are challenging – disruption of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), imbalance in metabolic supply and demand, neuroinflammation and formation of brain edema are some of the components in a plethora of existing processes. 5. 15. Stereotactic microdialysis for metabolic assessment and experimental treatment of malignant glioma

    Author : Pedram Tabatabaei; A. Tommy Bergenheim; Mikael Johansson; Maria Zetterling; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Brain microdialysis; Glioblastoma multiforme; Malignant glioma; Retrograde microdialysis; Glucose metabolism; Radiotherapy; Chemotherapy; Cytokine.; neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Abstract : Glioblastoma multiforme, the most common primary brain tumor, has a dire prognosis despite multimodal treatments that include surgery and radio-chemotherapy. To improve the outcome of this destructive disease, we need to improve our understanding of its tumor biology. READ MORE
