16. Studies on aquaporin 4 : a molecular determinant of brain water homeostasis
Abstract : A well controlled brain water homeostasis is of utmost importance for an appropriate control of neuronal activity. Astrocytes express the water channel aqauporin 4 (AQP4) and play a key role for the maintenance of brain water homeostasis. Brain edema is a result of perturbed water homeostasis and involves astrocyte swelling. READ MORE

17. Studies on astrocyte function : potential roles in brain water homeostasis and neuroprotection
Abstract : Astrocytes are essential in brain homeostasis and function, including maintenance of water and ion balance. Astrocytes express the water channel aquaporin 4 (AQP4), implicated in both physiological functions and injury processes associated with brain edema, a common consequence of brain diseases. READ MORE

18. MRI at 3 T of brain functions and fibre tracts adjacent to intracranial tumors
Abstract : The aims of the studies were: to evaluate the spatial resolution of fMRI at 3 T by studying fingersomatotopy in area 3 b of the primary sensory area (Paper 1); to investigate the potential of fMRI at 3T as a clinical tool for preoperative evaluation of patients with intracranial tumors (Paper 2); to investigate the effect of glioma resection on the spatial extent of fMRI activation as compared to the normal within-subject variability (Paper 3); to determine whether the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and fractional anisotropy (FA) can distinguish tumor-infiltrated edema of gliomas from pure edema of meningiomas and metastases (Paper 4). Results: Strict somatotopic organisation in the primary sensory cortex was shown in the group average; at the subject level the thumb was located laterally, anteriorly and inferiorly to the little finger in 94 % of subjects (Paper 1). 19. On VEGF and related factors in neurotrauma
Abstract : At present, there is no cure for traumatic spinal cord and brain injuries. Therapies in use have only modest effect on outcome. Therefore, the need to better understand the biology of traumatic CNS injuries, making development of new therapies possible, is huge. READ MORE

20. Megencephaly, significance, biology and identification of a genetic cause
Abstract : Enlarged brain is termed megencephaly or megalencephaly, and is defined as a brain volume above the 98th percentile. It is a major sign in several neurological diseases with symptoms ranging from very mild to lethal, including mental retardation, low intelligence, motoric and neurological disturbances, seizures and dysmorphic features.
