16. Functional brain imaging of sensorimotor dysfunction and restoration : investigations of discomplete spinal cord injury and deep brain stimulation for essential tremor
Abstract : The nervous system exists to generate adaptive behaviour by processing sensory input from the body and the environment in order to produce appropriate motor output, and vice versa. Consequently, sensorimotor dysfunction is the basis of disability in most neurological pathologies. READ MORE

17. Decoding the complex brain : multivariate and multimodal analyses of neuroimaging data
Abstract : Functional brain images are extraordinarily rich data sets that reveal distributed brain networks engaged in a wide variety of cognitive operations. It is a substantial challenge both to create models of cognition that mimic behavior and underlying cognitive processes and to choose a suitable analytic method to identify underlying brain networks. 18. Methods for longitudinal brain imaging studies with dropout
Abstract : One of the challenges in aging research is to understand the brain mechanisms that underlie cognitive development in older adults. Such aging processes are investigated in longitudinal studies, where the within-individual changes over time are observed. However, several methodological issues exist in longitudinal analyses. 19. The aging brain and changes in cognitive performance : Findings from morphometry and quantitative susceptibility mapping of iron
Abstract : Brain aging is a heterogeneous phenomenon, and this thesis illustrates how the course of aging can vary within individuals over time and between individuals as a function of age, sex, and genetic variability. We used two contrasts from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), namely spin-lattice T1-weighted imaging, and quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) from gradient-echo images, to picture the aging brain, by means of morphometric measures and brain-iron concentrations. 20. Computational Models in Deep Brain Stimulation : Patient‐Specific Simulations, Tractography, and Group Analysis
Abstract : Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an established method for symptom relief in movement disorders like Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor (ET), and dystonia. The therapy is based on implanting an electrode with four contacts in the deep brain structures where it provides electrical stimulation, mainly impacting the nerve tracts. READ MORE
