  1. 1. Integrated brake control : downhill driving strategies

    Author : Peter Lingman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; transport efficiency; heavy duty trucks; road slope estimation; cruise controller; retardation economy; foundation brakes; mass estimation; brake heat fading; Auxilary brakes; downhill driving strategies; component wear;

    Abstract : In this thesis, downhill driving strategies that co–ordinate the different brake actuators in heavy duty vehicles have been developed. As a starting point, the vehicle features affected by the retardation system are investigated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Improving emergency braking performance of heavy vehicles

    Author : Leon Henderson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; heavy vehicles; pneumatic brake actuator; ABS; pneumatic braking system; Slip control braking; HGV; vehicle testing; tyre dynamics;

    Abstract : Previous studies by the Cambridge Vehicle Dynamics Consortium (CVDC) have suggested that, by improving the control bandwidth of conventional Heavy Goods Vehicle(HGV) brake actuators and using a ‘slip control’ braking strategy, HGV stopping distances could be reduced by up to 30% over existing systems. The work covered in this thesis looks to: validate the CVDC’s previous braking performance predictions through Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) simulation, investigate how in-plane tyre dynamics may influence such a system’s performance, develop and build a next generation high-bandwidth braking system for vehicle implementation and carry out comparative back-to-back vehicle tests between the new system and commercially available HGV ABS. 3. 3. Techniques for Tolerating Soft Errors in Brake-by-Wire Systems

    Author : Daniel Skarin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses the problem of tolerating soft errors in brake-by-wire systems. Soft errors are caused by ionizing particles and manifest themselves as bit-flips in memory registers, latches, and flip-flops. As transistors are shrunk to sustain Moore's law, the frequency of such radiation-induced faults increases. READ MORE
