  1. 11. Impact of fermentation on the nutritive value of cassava root pulp and soybean pulp as a feed for growing pigs in Lao PDR

    Author : Lotchana Taysayavong; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis evaluated the impact of fermentation on the nutritive value of cassava root pulp (CRP) and soybean pulp (SBP) as feed for growing pigs. The evaluation was based on four studies (two fermentation and two animal studies). READ MORE

  2. 12. Cholesterol-lowering properties of oats: Effects of processing and the role of oat components

    Author : Tina Immerstrand; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oats; oat β-glucan; cholesterol; mice;

    Abstract : The cholesterol-lowering effect of oats has been studied for almost fifty years. The effect has hitherto essentially been associated with its content of β-glucans, the primary soluble dietary fibre in oats. READ MORE

  3. 13. Effects of Dietary Fibre and Probiotics on Hindgut Fermentation in Healthy Rats and in Rats with Dextran Sulphate Sodium-Induced Colitis and Colon Cancer

    Author : Camilla Bränning; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; carboxylic acids; probiotics; short-chain fatty acids; hindgut fermentation; Colonic health; prebiotics; microbiota; dietary fibre;

    Abstract : The importance of colonic fermentation has been realised during recent years as it has been found to be associated with colonic health and thus the overall health of the individual. The fermentation of dietary fibre and the addition of probiotics can have positive effects on the luminal environment and the colonic microbiota. READ MORE

  4. 14. Characterisation of Dietary Fibre Properties to Optimise the Effects on Human Metabolism and the Transcriptome

    Author : Matilda Ulmius; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; field-flow fractionation; gastrointestinal method; aggregation; solubilisation; pectin; β-glucan; sugar beet fibre; Oats; rye; postprandial responses; microarray gene expression;

    Abstract : It is well established that dietary fibre, especially soluble dietary fibre, has beneficial effects and can prevent diseases associated with the modern lifestyle. This has been explained by the viscous effects of soluble fibre, which can reduce or delay the absorption of carbohydrates and fat in the small intestine, resulting in lower blood concentrations of glucose, insulin and cholesterol. 5. 15. Aspects of the Duality between Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Theory and String Theory

    Author : Daniel Bundzik; Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Matematisk och allmän teoretisk fysik; classical mechanics; quantum mechanics; relativity; gravitation; statistical physics; thermodynamics; Natural science; Naturvetenskap; Physics; Fysik; Mathematical and general theoretical physics; Star product; Leigh-Strassler deformation; R-matrix; Integrability; Spin-chains; Fractional D-branes; type IIB string theory; AdS CFT-correspondence; gauge gravity correspondence; kvantmekanik; klassisk mekanik; termodynamik; statistisk fysik; relativitet;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with three topics related to the Ads/CFT correspondence. In Paper I, solutions describing the geometry of fractional D1-branes of Type IIB string theory are presented. The running coupling constant is computed on the gauge theory side. READ MORE
